OPHANIM
He gives a soft, bashful laugh when Kensa speaks and his cheeks grow hot beneath a blush as her lips find his face. Ophanim returns the gesture, exploring the gorgeous curves of her jaw briefly in a kiss that should know better by now. How ridiculous, to be so starved for these precious moments still. He turns his blue eyes to their newborn daughter when she asks for a name and he thinks for a moment while the girl begins to stand. The baby is smaller than he had expected, which plucks at his already tender heart strings, but she manages to rise onto her tiny hooves.
She’s determined despite her fragility and her eyes are hungry for knowledge as she studies him, in turn. Ophie laughs again but this time the sound is pleased rather than shy. Ciara edges forward as the rose gold girl steps closer to her mother. “Is there a name good enough for a baby so beautiful?” he jokes, his voice warm and sticky like honey spilled beneath a summer sun. The angel boy is smiling as the dragon child lips at her sister’s cheek lovingly. “Can we.. call her Soothe? Is that name alright?”
He forgets to mind the pink child as he plants little kisses across the younger girl’s face. Seeing her opportunity, Ciara mimics her father and presses her lips to Kensa’s face now. She tilts her head curiously when she’s asked her name, crooning softly at first in reply. “See.. air.. uhhh…” she mumbles, pointed little teeth clicking together at the end. Her pink eyes follow as Kensa touches Soothe’s shoulder and she briefly wonders why Ophanim never offers up little signs of affection like this. She would like to request the same kind of love but something tells her that this woman may not adore her as readily.
Ophanim lifts his head and watches her for a moment before returning his gaze to Kensa.
“Thank you, for coming all this way,” he says finally. He has only ever been present for the birth of Malone and his twins with Adna, so far, and so he’s thankful to be included. Ophanim is delighted to realize his heart feels content in his chest for the first time in a while.
