ALL THE DOUBT YOU'RE STANDING IN BETWEEN
Lepis and Bane had talked about this scenario. About a lot of different things, actually. What could go wrong and what could go absolutely right. In a perfect world there wasn’t need for Aten to consider himself their enemy. Truthfully Wolfbane could see how it looked from the champagne horse’s end, maybe he could even empathize a bit on behalf of the older stallion. The Taigan leader was doing what he thought was right… but was it best for his people? Would he really threaten his own safety and the lives of others because of his pride?
If so, that made Aten foolish despite his years.
“You blatantly underestimate us.” Wolfbane sighed, flicking his ears in thought. Both he and his wife had strong blood ties to Loess, to Nerine. A title handed down wasn’t one earned, merely one given. The fine points of this discussion were quickly turning into gray area. The time for idle chatter was ending. Enough of this. “Be an advisor and our champion; is that so disagreeable? You stay in the home you love, become a considerable asset and create a new link with us and our allies. If we fall out of sync or move on you still remain in line to take command.”
The multi-shifter raises a brow in consideration of what he’s offering to Aten. Much more than what anyone else could expect. Neither he nor his mate wanted to lose the possibility of a friend. Burning bridges wasn’t high on their list of priorities, but the stallion they faced deserved to understand what lengths they were willing to travel in order to achieve their desired goal. Would he have preferred they lied or outright challenged him without warning?
“And our intentions are good, despite what you incorrectly assume. Lepis and I have lost so very much… ” Bane begins to murmur, the soft glaze of his hazel eyes turning into a glittering sort of firmness. “We want you to understand that nothing, not even your determination, will prevent us from what we intend to do.” He finishes grimly.
For a moment or two he pauses, giving Lepis the opportunity to add or subtract as she desired. Then, “If you need time to think it over, fine. If not, make your decision.” Wolfbane says. “I’d prefer you stay and continue to watch over Taiga at our side and not against us.”
