    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    It's what they'd want.
Is it? Thorunn is never sure these days exactly what is wanted of her. With father and mother she had purpose! Father was training her in war, mother was...well, mother was always there. Mother did what she could with a daughter who far preferred the company of her father. Thorunn regrets the slights, no matter how small, she manged toward their mother. Did she take that to her grave thinking her orange eyed child hated her?

Thorunn can feel the tears again, but she pushes them back. Not for Val, not for herself, just because it's what father would want. He'd never chide her for crying but he would not tolerate it. He would have left her then. If he's here, she thinks, he's surely frowning.

She sniffles and steps back to see her sister through bloodshot eyes. "Will you stay?" she asks her sister, knowing the answer. Her sister won't stay. Val was always destined for things outside of the Valley, Thorunn thinks her mother knew. Their mother - born of the Valley herself. Thorunn will stay, it's written all over her face.

immortal, mind-reading immune daughter of Covet and Librette
