    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

I know my way through the night to your door...
Her visit to the Taiga had been brief, but enjoyable. It was a wilder land, full of promise. There she had met and lain with the strange Aquilo. He was beautiful and aloof, and that suited her just fine. As autumn's urging had gripped her belly, he had been there to sate her needs. Now, though, she was moving on. Back to the field, with its memories. She should visit them soon, the ones who'd welcomed her first. Hyaline, wasn't it? The place Keeper had called home, and likely Ryan too, by now. But first, a little time to reflect.

Field turned to woods, and then the river made itself known through the trees. Just in time, too, she was parched. The dusky blue of her coat dappled with filtered light, she made her way to a low bank. Already, the hint of chill in the air promised winter, and her pelt had already begun to grow longer and warmer. Autumn was not quite done with yet, however. Gilded foliage crowned the surrounding trees, beginning to paper the earth with fiery reds and golds. She saw as she bent her neck to drink, that several vibrant leaves had caught themselves in the ink of her mane. Pretty decorations that nature might have placed there with intention.

Enjoying the warmth of the late autumn sun on her back, the rugged mare drank deeply. She imagined it was pure sunlight flowing down her throat, filling her with enough heat and light to withstand the upcoming cold. If only it were that easy.

There were others nearby, their voices carrying over the gurgling water indistinctly. She looked at them briefly, admiring the scene as a whole. It was then that her gaze was drawn to another on their own. A pattern of bay and white mottled his body, beautifully contrasting against the autumnal background. For a brief moment he was a lovely portrait. The next, their eyes met across the water. A gentle smile played across her lips. A wicker of greeting vibrated in her throat, instinctivly reaching out to the strange stallion.    .
