"Yes, it is too much to ask. In case you have forgotten, you are a prisoner of Tepra, in the custody of the Queen. I have been given an order to hold you and that's what I will do."
"You are careless with your child's life, with your own. His wellbeing is not my responsibility, and I will not shoulder it," the heavy stallion snarls in disdain for such a lowly, primitive creature. Amorette's blind faith in her has his stomach roiling, and he can only hope she will take her chance at freedom when he gives it to her.
The vampiric mare seems to think they have arrived at a stalemate.
The fire mage feels differently.
Karaugh's gaze shifts to Amorette, and his opportunity lies before him. With the speed of a whip, a tendril of flame reaches through the firewall to surround Karaugh. The tendrils unravel to create a latticework of superheated bars solid enough to lift objects - too solid to pass through, even for the bravest or most careless of souls. Amorette had stepped back earlier, creating enough space for him to send in his flames without doing damage to his kind friend or the foal - he will not waste this chance.
"If your freedom is so valuable you should have thought of all this before you defied Ellyse."
With Karaugh trapped, his ears swivel back to the other mare and foal, but his gaze never leaves his prisoner.
"Take the foal and go."
There is no hint of a request in his voice, it is a command. He has no time to worry about where this put him and Amorette, he is only relieved that she will be able to leave without incurring damage.
The magic he uses to create this secure prison draws more energy and skill than the simple firewall had, and the structure of intertwined, solidified flame would dissipate if he were to leave.
Anything Amorette wished to discuss with him would have to wait, but with a sinking feeling which he does not show he wonders if there is anything left for them to salvage.
Levi
so scream you, out from behind the bitter ache.
