    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT
    & SATISFACTION BROUGHT HIM BACK
Dahmer can't sleep. He hasn't been able to since the cage, the wasteland, the deaths. Since Carnage. He gets brief interludes, quick chances to close his brilliant blue eyes, when he is spending time with Ellyse or Scyla. When he is with Ellyse, his slumber is light and jumpy with the desire to keep her safe. When it is with his sister, the black beast secures himself in a tight ball on the warm earth and really sleeps. He knows full well that the steel and ice mare will do nothing short of protect him until death, as he would do the same for her.

The Commander had been able to nap like such earlier in the day, while Smoak was spending time with Ellyse. Since sundown, though, he has hidden himself in his powers ─ tucked away cozily in the tree boughs, raven claws aptly clinging to the bark. Dahmer is unsure why the Dark God had gifted him with the ability to shift after subjecting him to such torment, but he has no desire to find Carnage and ask. He has sequestered himself to Tephra, instead. He has delved into his responsibilities as a Commander and rarely is there a moment that he does anything else.

Snapping twigs alerts the raven to his new company, coaxing the male's beady black eyes open. They sweep over the dark earth, finally connecting with the frame of a stallion whose dark bay coat glows warmly in the orange light of a nearby lava stream. Dahmer mulls over the other stallion's features. He'd never seen this one before, though he's sure that most of Tephra's residents know that this area, this hidden den and thicket of trees by the base of the volcano, is his.

The dark bay stallion releases a call into the air. It sounds almost... sorrowful? Dahmer shifts his claws against the branch for a moment, rustling his wings before dropping off the branch and moving to a lower one. He repeats the movement, coming to one of the lowest hanging branches, and tilts his dark feathered head to the side.

    "Yes?" he questions flatly.
