I am not afraid... I was born to do this.
The breath of the wind changes. It stirs with something new entirely, a foreignness that kindles a flame in Nayl’s gut. She blinks, assuming it harmless, but as the seconds blur into minutes her mind reels with the uncertainty of her situation. There is a twisting in her stomach, a hesitance. Her eyes narrow beneath her forelock as she looks into the black cloak of nightfall. The borders are too far to see so she cannot defend her sister as she is assaulted and dragged to a world she once helped control. She isn’t quite sure why she waits so long with her eyes flickering between the southern border of Nerine to the ocean humming in front of her. Something draws her curiosity, but it also roots her here until her mind can wait no more. Once, she had been so diligent wandering the outskirts of home, keeping a wary eye trained on the invisible walls, waiting and daring trespassers.
But Nayl has been slipping. It’s almost frightening.
Beneath a shroud of darkness, she slips from the salty embrace of the coastal wind and abandons her place at the foreboding edge of the cliff. A single glance over her shoulder is the only indication of her hesitance to leave during this time of night, but she continues on with footsteps that whisper across the sand and coastal grass. At first a nonchalant walk, a stroll almost, but the unfamiliar call adds purpose in ways she didn’t anticipate. Everything is almost a blur as concern reels through her mind, but it’s masked well behind a face of iron.
”Who are you?” Her voice is frosted, demanding, but her eyes are raging infernos as she stares at the trespasser, taking careful note of the satisfaction dripping from her jagged smile.
