I'm an invisible monster,
and I'm incapable of loving anybody.
You don't know which is worse.
Scyla was grazing quietly by herself. It was strange because well, Scyla didn't often like to be completely alone. But here she was, grazing in the meadows of Tephra. Her morning flight had gone well, and the muscles were tired now. Hunger felt like it was ebbing away when there was a disturbance in the bushes and a yowl that seemed to come from a mountain lion. The invisible monster tensed, her ears pricked forward, and she was ready for whatever was going to come her way.
The invisible monster had been trained, she knew that with enough force of her hooves that anything could be crushed. She knew that while her teeth were blunt, they could break skin if needed. Her feathers brustled, making her bigger than she actually was and the muscles tensed. But then there was children's laughter, and growling. Her tenseness ebbed just slightly, and the curiousity instead was now her main focus. She scented the air, finding no trace of lions. Curious. Very curious.
And then they came tumbling out. Two panthers, interlocked in some sort of sibling wrestling match. She snorted and shied back just a little bit before they looked up at her. She quickly lowered her head and shoved her muzzle at each of the cubs sniffing them curiously. They smelled more like horses than panthers. She withdrew her head and tilted it slightly to the left. "What are you?" There was no acknowledgement that they had tumbled into her. Her left wing and brushed them apart from each other for a minute. "And maybe you don't fight for a minute." She wanted answers. And she wanted them now.
