… curiosity killed the cat &
satisfaction brought him back
satisfaction brought him back
He had not been expecting Ellyse to meet his muzzle, and so lets an unexpectedly nicker fall from his nose. Her scent is a welcome one, and yet still feeds the flames that lick at his insides. Dahmer is confused by his own reaction, at the way the unlikely pair, frustration and contentedness, mingle and bloom. When Ellyse breaks their contact, he is almost thankful, and expels his held breath. The stallion's blue eyes return to the dark river, the shadowy trees, and the dark navy sky behind them as she settles her winged frame next to his.
His companion - his friend - answers the question that he, maybe, doesn't deserve the answer to. They had never been close, though the mutual respect had been obvious. But still, who is he to ask Ellyse to reveal emotions that were usually reserved for ones closest confidants?
The mare surprises him, though, and confides those feelings in him. Dahmer remains quiet for a few moments after she has fallen into silence, his blue eyes moving again from the river to search Ellyse's face. Had it been a little brighter, he would have seen the way her eyes well, heavy with tears, but instead he must only rely on the quiver in her quiet voice. "You don't have to tell me, if you don't want to," he offers quietly, the first sympathetic thought he has experienced since his departure from Tephra.
Dahmer shifts to the side, closer to Ellyse, to feel the way her feathers tickle against his dark coat. "Sometimes, 'unsaid' is better," he murmurs with frustration into the darkness before reaching his nose up to the mare's withers and playing with her mane, comfortable to show a more affection side of himself under the cover of the night.
His jaw remains clenched but the rest of him is loosely content next to the champagne mare for now. Dahmer snorts, the sound sudden and terse. "I will feel better when I have a distraction," a tense grumble.
