    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Vyx had been promptly abandoned the day she was born. She had been her mother’s first and nothing like the first-time dam thought she would be; instead of a long-legged filly she got a sly-eyed fox pup. If she had stuck around a few hours longer she would have watched her daughter’s involuntary shift into that of the long-legged filly she had hoped for. Vyx had no control, she was as much one as she was the other. Perhaps if she had been born to a vixen mother instead of a mare, they would have just said she was a fox with a weird quirk. But as it stands, she’s a horse that would rather spend her time on padded claws than hooves. Who wants their ass to be that big anyway?

Although the thoughts clouded her mind at times, Vyx was not one to dwell on her own intricacies and brood over dulled memories. She would much rather spend her time sliding through the grass on claws silent as a sickness, eavesdropping on the gossiping mares or hunting some kind of unlucky Jungle creature. Vyx would sooner like to starve to death than to have to subsist on dry, tasteless, horse-shit fed grass. Though she doubted any of them could relate, well, or perhaps maybe one could. Here, kitty kitty…

Vyx slipped through the underfronds, quick and black like a crow’s shadow a she searched through the dense kingdom. Her eyes racing through the clearings and huddles of Jungle shrubs to catch the sight of the beige lion or the painted mare, though she was hoping for the one that bore the mouthful of sharp teeth and wielded claws much larger than her own. Maybe I can finally taste what that bossy, horn-face cow tastes like. I’m sick of it’s stupid sounds…
