Magnus liked that idea, that this land was alive and aware and only waiting to reveal itself to them in bits and pieces. It brought a warmth to his eyes, a joy to the curve of his scarred lips. “I imagine that she will tell us her name in good time then.” A soft laugh fogged his mouth. “All good things, including women, are worth the wait, are they not?” It had certainly been his experience, at least. He had been lucky to be surrounded by powerful, intelligent, awe-inspiring women throughout his life. All of them worth the wait.
The thought, however, does not stick to him for long, and they are soon rolling onto the other areas of their conversation, Magnus regards the stallion with a warm smile. “Warrick,” he responds with an echo of the other’s name, the smile still quirking the edges of his lips. “You are more than welcome to come and call Tephra home. I believe that we would be lucky to count you as one amongst our family.”
Magnus was not in the habit of turning away souls who sought a place to call their own, but, even if he was, he wouldn’t have turned away Warrick. Not when everyone he had learned about the stallion told him that he was a good man, a good companion, and a good conversationalist. So, with all of the camaraderie of slapping a hand to a shoulder, Magnus bumped his nose to the stallion’s shoulder.
“How about we go find you a place to rest for the night.”
Then he would return to his duties, to guarding the border, to looking out for all of those precious bodies that lay their heads down at night in Tephra, trusting Magnus was there to ensure their peace and safety.
