    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

she's the bright hot sun in the cold night
she's the cold black darkness in the starlight

She watched as he concentrated, as the magic began to pool in his body, as he focused his energy. He may have not said anything, but his intentions were clear—his very thoughts screaming through her head. She took a stalking step forward. “Don’t you dare,” she snarled viciously, but the words were barely out of her mouth before the deed was done, the icicles attached to her chin. Her eyes lit. “You impudent child.”

Frustrated, she reached down to try and hit the icicles at the ground, hoping to dislodge them, but instead of shattering, they withstood the hit. Her teeth rattled and a headache instantly formed behind her eyes and she cursed colorfully, shaking her head and feeling the cold from her chin finding her mouth.

“You…” her voice shook with anger and she stalked closer “you get rid of these right now.”

How she wished to have some sort of power beyond the ability to read minds—a power that was more curse than anything right now with his amusement thick in the air around her. She peered into his mind and for a brief moment, she saw herself—small and fluffy with the long white beard of ice.

And then—well, then, what happened was completely unexpected.

    She laughed.

A bright, pretty sound that rippled through the air, her own amusement brightening her face. It dislodged from her throat and made her belly hurt but she snapped it off quickly, her dual-colored eyes growing wide with shock. For a moment, she stood there, legs wide, breathing heavily, before she looked up and fixed him with her gaze. For once in her life, completely and totally unaware of what to do.

This didn’t happen to her. She didn’t find things funny—let alone at her own expense.

What was he doing to her?
