    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

when you speak dreams and reality collide
She shrieks as she dives towards the trees, wind whistling through her steel grey feathers. She pulls up just before she hits the tree tops, then soars above the leafy green. Even now, months into experimenting with her new abilities, she can’t get over the excitement she feels during flight. She’d been able to fly before of course, having been born with wings, but it’s not the same. Not at all. As a hawk she is so much faster, so much more maneuverable. It’s such a wonderful, freeing feeling to dip and soar high over everyone’s heads, to have a view few others can see.

But today she’s not here for the view.

She slows, dipping lower, then drops through the canopy. She sinks lower and lower, until the little speckled hawk alights awkwardly on the forest floor. The hawk’s outline wavers, then suddenly shoots outwards and upwards. Within moments, a young silver-tipped mare stands in it’s place. She takes a few steps forward, stretching out her limbs, then stops to look about.

    The Forest.

It’s been a long time since she last stepped foot here. A year in fact. Funny how much can change in a year.

She’d been a yearling then, young and feral, having been forced to raise herself after getting lost in the woods. She’d had no idea what it meant to live with other horses. And then Ruan had found her and taken her in, let her into his family.

She’s changed so much since then. It’s funny to think of how she must have looked then, to Ruan’s eyes. A wild little thing all alone. She hasn’t gotten rid of her wild roots of course though, not entirely. It’s part of why she’s finally come back, to visit the place that had once been her home.

She raises her head to sniff the air, and in spite of herself lets out a happy whinny. Taiga will always be her home now, but it’s good to be back.
