    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

There's a song in your lung and a dream in your eye.

They will have a home soon, even if it is not the Amazons. It would be something. In this world filled with the new and strange, there is not much more they could hope for. With their gifts gone and the lands swallowed, it seems it is the small things that now matter the most.

Family, the sisterhood (at least what is left of it), and those few friends she has. She had seen her father, she knows that he is alive and well (if significantly less imposing). Her mother she has not yet seen, and she worries. But her mother has been tired for a long, and it would not surprise her if she slumbers still. A curse of the immortal apparently. Of course, she may no longer be immortal, unless she had been granted that small consolation prize like Joscelin had been granted her wings. A new worry to add to her list. And her brother, Ramiel, seems to have vanished into the ether as well. She knows he had surrendered his throne shortly before the fall of Beqanna, but she has neither heard nor seen anything since. That fact bothers her, for he has always been the most reliable, the most dependable, of all her relations.

But she has Celeana at least, even if the guilt of her most recent absence still weighs upon her. Her adoptive daughter has always forgiven her, and though it might make her terribly selfish, Joscelin is grateful for it.

The young mare is not difficult to find, fortunately. Settling the russet, feathered wings against her cracked sides, Joscelin steps in close. With winter so thickly upon them, the women of the Jungle had suffered. They are not accustomed to the cold like so many others are. So she presses close to her daughter, willingly sharing her warmth with her. Pressing her muzzle against her neck briefly, a signal of her affection, she offers her one of her rather rare, if brief, heartfelt smiles. ”Celeana, I am glad you are here.”
