    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

At first, the little spotted colt had thought being on your own would be exciting, and for awhile it was.  Having zero adult supervision, only needing to track down his mother when it was time for a feeding? Pretty cool.  Having no curfew or set bedtime?  Even cooler! But, Danuvius had come to realize that it could be rather lonely too.  There's an easy solution for this, however:  go out and make some friends.  The Playground would have been the much better option, rather than the Forest where he usually hung out, but Danu is too stubborn to give up and go elsewhere.  There *had* to be at least some other foals here, and he was going to find them, come H-E-L-L or high water!  And he is at last successful, for after a few hours of wandering he spots a mother-mare and her foal, the same age as himself.  A proud little sort of crowing sound escapes the Anglo-Arabian's thin chest, and he practically prances over to the pair.

The other foal turned out to be a filly; not that Danuvius minded.  He was an equal-opportunity playmate seeker, after all.  Coming to a stop right in front of them, he bobs his head politely.  "Hullo, ma'am, ma'am junior.  My name is Danuvius, and I was wondering if maybe either of you might be in need of someone to play with?  I am, too, you see, so maybe we could help each other out if so?  " He flashes a cheeky grin at them, expecting a positive answer.  After all, who didn't want to engage in a round of hide and seek, or tag, no matter their age?  Just, not any more attempts at the bobbing for apples game that mother had once tried with him when he was beginning to be entertained.  Inwardly, Danuvius shudders at the memory.  He'd ended up falling into the pond, getting covered with mud in the process and, and it had taken nearly a week before he'd managed to pluck all of the seaweed out of his coat and tail (Mother had had to clean out his mane for him, how embarrassing for a guy!)
