    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The world is their oyster… Indeed it is. It is laid out before us, like a ripe fruit hanging from a branch and begging to be plucked and savored. Our imaginations are our only limitations. We have a sea of gold around us and the wind at our backs. Though its taken me a while, I’ve come to realize what a blessing it was that I was dropped off at the Deserts borders. Here I’ve found friends, and I daresay a family. While my own mother may have tossed me to the side like a used napkin, they had plucked me from obscurity and given me something special. I loved them, each and every one of them. No one here and ever done me harm, and I knew deep within my bones that no one ever would.

I do not hear her at first, for the shade was very comforting and I was easily lulled to sleep. I start, but only for a moment before a smile floods my face. “It was so nice here, I just couldn’t help but take a nap! But now that you mention it, surely there’s something we can get into. I’ve learned some new tricks with the sand.” I say with a childish excitement. Its true, I’d be practicing, and had gotten a much better grasp over my powers. But before I can demonstrate, something beautiful and magic happens around us. Lilles, delicate as lace and twice as beautiful sprout beneath our feet. I’m surprised I don’t hear a “pop” as they emerge from the ground. I look back to Zilpah, allowing confusion and wonderment to flood my features. The lillies seem to be leading us somewhere, but where that is I’ve no idea. Perhaps it is Cam playing with her powers. “Shall we follow?” I ask, though my feet are already moving. With each step the lillies become thicker, until finally they surround me. Standing just in the middle of the “field” was Zale, someone I’d come to know like a father. My smile widens, and I toss my head in delight. “Zale! They’re gorgeous.” I say as I look around. “But I think I can one up that!” And with a look of concentration I set to work. The sands rise in front of me, nothing but a swirling golden blob right now, but that will soon change. The harder I concentrate, the more of a shape they take until finally, there is a golden horse standing between us. It does not move in the way a horse would, though the grains of sand that make it up are constantly swirling. “How do you like that?” I say, a child seeking admiration from those she admired most.
