    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    The Dale was gone.

Ashley took a minute to wrap his mind around that. The Dale was GONE! Everyone he knew kept telling this to him, and it was not as if he did not believe them, as they were all congregated here, full of heated emotion, dazed and confused in groups. The old mourned right alongside the young, and Ashley sneered as he looked up at the summit of the mountain where the all-mother held her court. She found them to be her personal jesters, calling them up and down at her will, willing to play them as long as they continued to dance for her glory.

This did nothing but piss the old king off.

So while he was left to contemplate the memories and the mental images of his beloved Dale falling into the sea, he wondered what it had looked like in those final days. What kind of world had they lived in that it was so drastically beyond repair? Was there but a one way path that led to the destruction of the land as they knew it as a whole? Ashley highly doubted that was the case. The fairies just wanted an excuse to snatch the power for themselves.

Down on their knees in supplication, those who had made the trek had found themselves blessed once again with their gifts, or given land. Ashley had gone before her silent, but standing, and had been sent back down, as if he should have had his tail between his legs. This angered him, stoked the fires within him, until he was raging. He paced for days after that, his mind going over the exchange in his head, having seen his own mother in party with another. He had wondered if she had seen him, but instead decided that it didn’t matter. Ashley continued to pace, making tracks and scarring the land from where he refused to leave. He; without his power, or his magic. He felt useless. Unwanted, unneeded.

Was there a place for him under the sun, or would he have been better off never having been released from that statue?

I walked the path, it led me to the end.
