    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    [open]  Butterfly Wings [Birthing]
    #1
Her labouring pains hit quickly, catching her by surprise - much like when a thunderstorm rolls in on a blue summers day. It took her about a minute to fully process what was happening, but she soon welcomed the surprise labour. It was a relief to her that the foal was finally on the way. It was now nearing the end of the birthing season and most mares already had their foals and as the days rolled by with nothing - with not even a little pinch to tell her that she should expect a little bundle soon - she had started to worry. But it seemed that now her worries were for nothing.

The dark mare tensed as her pains grew stronger by the minute, almost reminding her that it was happening and she was to have her baby very soon. It was too risky to have her foal out in open so she began her search for a secluded place to have her baby. After several minutes of hobbling along, she finally found the spot to give birth in. It was in a quiet part of the meadow, where the grass grew long and golden, perfect for hiding away the baby that was soon to come. The labour pains worsened and she lowered herself to ground. Flicking her eyes briefly over her swollen belly to check, but there was no foal yet.

The sun had climbed high into the azure sky when she finally welcomed her new baby into the world. The dark mare felt very calm and relaxed, the air around her seeming magical, like the meadow itself knew that something wonderful had happened. Blue-winged butterflies fluttered gracefully between gold stalks further heightening this peaceful mood. A smile broke across her face when she felt slight movement at the base of her flank.

Aune turned to look and, there, nestled against her warm flank. A fuzzy, tiny foal blinked up at her. A special-kind of smile tugged at her lips upon seeing the wondrous expression on it's face as it ogled at it's long legs which were spread out on the grass. A maternal instinct washed over her, growing stronger for every moment she looked upon her tiny baby, all small and new to the world.

Whickering, the colt struggled to stand on his long, gangly legs. Don't rush yourself, Little One. She cooed, humming with gentle laughter when he stumbled a little and his legs gave in, causing him to fall back down on the soft grass. He looked at her wondrously, obviously feeling the newborns instinct to be close to it's mother. He tried once again to stand but half-way up he started to wobble dangerously. He whickered as a cry for help but only got good-natured laughter in return. Eventually he managed to right himself and began making his first wobbly steps towards her. Well done. She praised. Wonderful! Your first steps. Only a few moments old and already you're such a strong colt. The small colt neighed victoriously as he and Aune nuzzled each other. The foal's attention was already snagged as he ogled at beautifully coloured butterflies floating around the clearing. Aune smiled at her little treasure, only moments old and she already loved her foal more than anything in the world.
