    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

At two years old, Raene is still very much an adolescent, gawky and physically unsure of herself. That she has inherited her father's height is no help and her sleek but feathered legs are as likely to trip her up as to carry her forward. Still, despite the fact that she is often covered in more than the usual number of bumps and bruises, the appaloosa-spotted filly manages to have at least some semblance of looking put together.

Most of that is due to the fact that she has Grandmother Nativity's color-changing, and the hues that she paints on her naturally black and white are eye-catching enough to distract from her clumsiness. Today she is still mostly her spotted blanket black self, but her mane and tail are the same salmon-pink as her mother's. A handful of her black spots are the same bright chestnut as her father's copper coat, and her eyes are as yellow as the back of a goldfinch.

The rain has washed off most of the mud from her most recent fall, so Raene feels that perhaps she's suitable enough for company. The nearest horse is a paint mare with lonely coloring of her own, and the filly moves forward to greet her with a warm and genuine smile. "Hello there," she says, her voice a tad too enthusiastic for a day as dreary as this one. "I'm Raene. What's your name?"
