    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

What the truth is, I can't say anymore

Illusion is always better than reality. What lay in wait for the residents of Beqanna was a sad comparison to any quest the fae would send you on. It’s why the wolf has avoided the magical lands as much as he can. Better to keep one’s head from getting too high into the clouds. He’s made the most of what he’s been given (or so he likes to think) and thus far it’s proven to be a rather roller-coaster sort of life. The war had shaken him up a bit, left him a few years grey around the muzzle when he shouldn’t be. It got him banished from one kingdom, permanently marked, and left him missing the once incredible mane he’d taken so long to grow out.

But that was life. Sometimes it slapped you down, other times it raised you up.

For all the horrible things he’s done there’s still just as many good things that have happened to him. Being given Dacia, to keep him sane. His time spent with Zojja was nothing short of miraculous. The twins birth, that would stick with him forever. Finding Umqra. Welcoming Circinae to the world. He begins to lose count. For every rise, there is a fall, and somehow he feels once more on the lower side of things, wondering where it had turned sour.

Banished, from the Chamber. He’d served his life there, given his blood and power to see it flourish. He may not have known every tree, root, or needle that crossed his path, but he would’ve given so much more. Killdare had been a fool to cross him and now … now he’d make good on that promise he’d made in the long light of the flaming tree. But revenge, as he well knows it, takes time to bring to fruition and he’s only just begun to plant the seed. That’s why he’s here, as a black wolf, creeping out from behind the cover of the wood to sit on the opposite side of the shallow reflection pond, watching the horned mare with tear-streaked cheeks look hopelessly into the horizon.

“You remind me of my sister.” He begins, voice rolling over the still water to where she waits. “She thought she’d been given the short end of the stick too.” He guesses, only assuming that he’s making the right connection between her earlier cry-fest and her impressive horns. “What she doesn’t realize is that her curse, is actually a blessing.” He ends, dark tail sweeping behind him to disturb the resting foliage. Oh yes … Dacia had been fooled by love, like all silly girls were at some point. But she had something Killdare did not. She knew the whereabouts of her son, Hellbane, and for Lupei, that was all the firestarter he needed.
