    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Today she wasn't following Nevi around like a lost puppy. She knew that he loved her and would do anything she needed him to do, but he would never let her do anything for him. Except cuddle. Nevi loved to cuddle. So did she come to think of it. All those lonely nights in the Den had given her a fondness to cuddling. She would curl up with Nevi, tucking her head against his body somewhere or puzzle piece her body next to his and Argo's. And Mari and Lis's. She hadn't yet really played with Mari or Argo or Lis. She was either by herself (which she hated) so Nevi, or Isle, or Offspring could have some time without their new needy daughter/sister or she was off with one of them doing whatever it was they did.

Today she was alone. God she hated being alone. Horrible flashbacks of being in the Den without no one kept cramming themselves into her head. She was lucky, she knew this. Knew that the three babies that had been adopted into this family were luckier than a lot of others. She knew this, pounded it into her head until it gave her a headache sometimes, but she still couldn't help but feeling that they would soon kick her out if she wasn't a good girl. If she wasn't quite so needy.

She was still the same, but the usually loud and curious girl had disappeared for a while. She was still learning how to be a good daughter, even though Isle and Offspring had told her she was theres and would be safe here always. She would never have to go back to the Den, never have to find another home. This was her.

    Oh the struggle.

A soft call broke her thoughts as she scuffed along the Tundra lands. Her ears pricked up and she finally saw the mare-child. She looked to be the same...Oh it was Mari! She picks up into a trot and pushes her reservations about not being good enough for the girl-child to want to play with her away. She was going to give the other's a break from her neediness. She was going to play today.

She is black against the tundra landscape. She's not exactly sneaky but she is quiet. She has been practicing you see, for when they were playing hide and seek. She sneaks towards the girl, moving slowly and quietly until all of a sudden she makes a loud noise. "RAWR!" And then she is charging forwards, reaching out with her nose to touch Mari's shoulder as she bounds away. "Tag! You're it!" And then she is gone, bounding away while looking over her shoulder to see if her sister is willing to play with her today.

That awkward moment when you're laughing so hard but no noise comes out so you sit there clapping like a retarded seal.
