    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

AND ABANDON, THAT GREETS YOU IN THE NIGHT WITH SNAKE EYES, THE MOST PRECIOUS KIND.

Delightful. As if it weren’t horrible enough that his father was breathing down his neck every minute of the day that he could, now the elder wolf was arranging a play-date for him. Why did he have to deal with his extended family anyways? Lupei wasn’t even one-hundred percent sure that the up-and-coming mare was his daughter anyways. All he had to go on was her coat color and her inability to control her shifting, which was unnatural and - as his father had learned some time ago - given to her in a quest. Wyrm could curl his nose in distaste at it. Even if she was Lupei’s daughter, she was only Wyrm’s half-sibling. That, coupled with the amount of stress his sire had placed on him to “be nice or else”, had soured his usually mischievous mood.

Why was this girl so special anyways? He and his brother had talent to spare, Lupei should be focusing on them, not some poor filly he’d found abandoned in the forest. Yet here he was, under strict order to seek her out and make friends with her. “Family first.” His father had mentioned, despite Wyrm’s protest. Fine, but he didn’t have to like it. The growing colt makes his way quickly to the Chamber, shifting eagerly into a spine-tailed swift (crafty birds, capable of speeds that would shock a curious mind) and bulleting across the sky until he’s coasting over the great expanse of wooded mountains that the girl calls home. “Umqra.” He reminds himself, eyes changing to that of a falcons so he might pick out her shade of green beneath all the other similar colors in the pinewood.

He spots her to the east, black mane and tail contrasting against the coat that had won his father over. She’s fetching, he’ll give her that. The small bird dips low, breaking through the cover of the trees to zip between the tightly packed trunks until he draws up near her - shifting once more in mid-air but keeping the wings like a pegasus so that he might have a soft, hovering landing. Wyrm - ever the show-off. With his feet once more on the earth and his matching green wings tucked close at his sides he looks her over, refusing to pass judgement until she’s given him reason to. “Umqra?” He asks, suspicion dripping into his sharp tone. “I’m Wyrm, Lupei’s son.”
