    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

we all carry these things that no one else can see
they hold us down like anchors; they drown us out at sea

The sun was warm today—and he found that he welcomed it. Ever since he had returned, he never seemed to be warm enough, his bones seemingly always chilled. Lifting his handsome, scarred head to the sun, he closed his eyes for a moment, letting the threads of spring wash over him. It wasn’t until he heard the concern lacing through the mare’s cry that he opened his eyes and saw her standing in the water. Confused, and admittedly curious, Magnus moved forward until he was on the edges of the lake.

“Hello?” his voice was quiet and composed of smoke, the rust having fallen away from its decades of rest. He was, for all purposes, the vision of a quiet, sturdy stallion—if not a solitary one. He had thrown himself into the rigors of kingdom life and was intent on seeing Heaven rise once more from the ashes. She may have been attacked, but she was never one to stay down for long. He wouldn’t let her.

Taking another step so the water began to lap at his legs, he called again, “Is everything alright?” He noticed the concern etched on her features or the confusion. It mirrored so closely what he had felt for so long after life was breathed back into his lungs that he couldn’t help himself from waiting to make sure she was alright. He may not be the white knight, but he never could stop himself from trying to save those around him.

    MAGNUS

once general. once lord. once king.
