I was a dreamer before you went and let me down —
She was not one typically drawn to the dark, but, there is something to be said for the quiet that can seemingly only be found within the forest.
Here, the din of conversation seemed to disappear, replaced instead by the whisper of branches rustling and the occasional flutter of a bird’s wings, their various songs woven throughout, the forest creating its own kind of harmony. The tranquility of it all seemed to loosen the knot of tension that Kennice never seemed to realize she was holding onto, not until it at last unraveled with a quiet sigh into the shadowy forest.
Darkness stretched out before her, pale light straining through the trees but only just enough to hint at the idea of daylight above as she walked along a fairly worn path. She was not feeling particularly adventurous today, and had nearly decided she’d had enough solitude when a peculiar sight through the tall trunks of the trees caused her to pause, and peer closer: a flash of earthbound sky, and a glimmer of sunlight.
Curiosity pulls her towards him like a string, wending her way through the trees until he comes into full view. She watches him in silence for a moment, at the way he seems to be nearly pacing with his head looking upward. She steps closer to him, tilting her own head upward, but unable to see anything besides the tangled weave of branches and the barest glimpse of a baby-blue sky, she asks him, “what are you looking for?”
