    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Beyza isn’t prone to accepting help - she rarely actually needs it - but she is intrigued enough to nod an agreement to the offer. Whether or not he could assist her, at least she would have more company than the dead for a little while. “The last time I saw the spot I’m looking for, it was deep in the forest but the trees had been persuaded to move enough so that the sun could reach the ground.” In theory, that should mean the spot stood out amongst the darkness but she can no longer recall how wide of an opening she had made in the canopy for that filly. Every speck of light caused her to pause, to wonder whether the limbs had grown over it. “It was a few years ago, though. Just before the eclipse.”

Something very close to embarrassment begins to creep into her mind when she thinks about that lasting darkness - so she packages that feeling away so it cannot influence her now. Neatly compartmentalized with everything else she does not want to feel.

(Perhaps the spot she was looking for would be easier to find if she did not avoid so much - but she pointedly avoids such analyzing thoughts.)

His voice is nearly indifferent when he answers her question about hunting and in contrast, Beyza is genuinely intrigued - blinking in surprise at the answer. It wasn’t a method of hunting she had ever heard of before, and it is always pleasant to learn something new. “How interesting.” She says with sincerity, studying him a little more closely. And she can’t quite help but voice at least one of her curious thoughts. “Any emotion?”

It is something she doubts she’d be able to test and experience first-hand as the hunter, the taking of another’s emotions seems outside of the boundaries that govern her magic. So she will have to satisfy herself with whatever information he is willing to give her.
