THORN
In the endless abyss of wallowing that Thorn falls through, he occasionally finds someone happy enough to cushion his descent. It is not often; in fact, he thinks he has only experienced it once (and even that . . . perhaps it was a dream). But when he senses it, he just knows - even as their pain trickles into his veins like poison, he hardly notices.
Such a powerful bond of motherly love. Such a force of childhood innocence.
Yes, Thorn drowns in Chasity's pain, but - it feels like it costs less. Like their pain has an answer and one day they'll never feel it again. A lighter breath escapes the sabino's lips. A deep inhale of air, a sharp exhale of clarity.
I could stay here forever.
But the summer sun is not apt to hide a seventeen hand tall pegasus, and with little coverage, Chasity is bound to notice him. Thorn realizes this, his wonderous gaze roiling into a storm of confusion and irritation. He tells himself to turn around but his feet simply do not listen: soon the stallion is within a polite distance of the stranger.
"You're in pain," he states.
It feels strange to tell her that.
