“I see that now,” he says, and sighs. He doesn’t know what possessed Gail to act in such a way – pure and utter defiance. She has always been immune to him, for reasons he cannot fathom, but she has developed her own strange powers, as she lives in her in-between kingdom. He does not know the extent of them, has not asked, nor seen a demonstration.
However powerful she is, though, she still hasn’t come back. Still can’t.
(Save for that one time she did. And he wasn’t him she came back for. He doesn’t think about that. Refuses to.)
“If she calls for you again, don’t listen,” he says. He trusts her to obey. It is one of the reasons he finds her, again and again. That, and something else, something inexpressible about her, about the way they have anchored to one another.
“Gail can be dangerous, and I don’t always trust her,” he adds, and ah, the irony of that statement, coming from him!
She is dangerous only because he cannot control her, but he does not say that. Untrustworthy only because he cannot read her mind.
He touches her once more, a final affirmation that she has rejoined this mortal plane. A final breath of warmth and her scent, and then he is gone, leaving her alone on the mountain.

ALWAYS feel free to start something else with me and carnage or whoever but carnage was done sulking about his wife to his other wife/angel/side-piece i guess. also you're the best.
