    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    oceane
with tremulous cadence slow, and bring
the eternal note of sadness in

The brief, fleeting moment between the Loessian Cleric and Lady that consists only of genuine smiles and happiness to see the other is all that the winged Oceane needs to feel ─ to know ─ that everything will turn out okay... eventually. Though she knows she must continue to be patient, she is flooded with relief at the arrival of Lepis despite the wasteland ─ her temporary home ─ that sprawls out behind her.

The urge to bridge the obvious gap between them, to coil her neck over Lepis' in gratitude, is strong. But still she remains planted firmly within the border of Pangea, softly cradling the ache for affection in her chest.

Lepis' smile falters, and Oceane's follows, but only briefly, as her friend's voice rings clear in her head and draws that smile out again. Her amber eyes well and tears of appreciation, fatigue, homesickness, and loss threaten to spill forth across her face. But she knows the pair will not be alone for long and does not wish for any of her current herd-mates to happen upon her in a moment of vulnerability, so the tears are suppressed and the tightness of her throat is ushered away with a seemingly casual toss of her lavender forelock.

A gentle nod is all that is given in response to Lepis' thought projection ─ it's all that can be given, when they are surrounded by predators.

Oceane's breath catches as the Cleric Regent begins to tell her what news she is able, in regards to Castile. The pegasi had, of course, wondered at his draconic form and how it had, apparently, decided to actively frequent Loess' foothills, but to hear Lepis say that Castile is not himself ─ and to avoid saying that he is safe ─ draws cold fear into her belly.

Her fears, though, are not for Castile ─ but for Loess.

"Well, he certainly could not have elected a better Regent. I hope Alcinder hasn't been too much of a handful, considering your new responsibilities," she says carefully and with warmth, in case they are not alone in this conversation, "But you know I will happily spend my time here if it is for his benefit, and Loess'."
