She had been irritable the last couple days (ahhaha weeks, who was she kidding). Not on purpose, and she expected it was because she was getting closer to evicting the little imp inside her. Nevi had been a constant source of comfort, always pressing soft touches to her body, saying soft things in her ear. She had urged them away from the more populated parts of Tephra, not that they were out amongst the masses that much anyways.
She was wandering, with Nevi at her side, through the hills in the middle of Tephra when she found a perfect little hidey hole that they could just settle on into and ignore the rest of the world moving along outside without them. The universe naturally has other plans and so she feels the first bits of contractions ripple along her sides. She distracts herself with soft touches to his body and other things until they intensify. Until it feels like her body is ripping itself in half.
She doesn’t yell or cry, she merely grunts, ears falling back amongst the tendrils of her mane with each contraction. Even when she makes her way to the ground, even when she can feel the baby slipping from her womb and out into this world, she isn’t loud. She lays there for a moment after it had stopped, her breathing harsh and jagged from the pain. She blinks, rolling up onto her side to take a look at the baby. Their baby.
She cleans it, cleans her and smiles a soft smile at the girl as she wobbles to her feet. “Hi baby.” Her words soft, her nose nudging her gently. “Your daddy named you Lilette. So sure he was of a little girl, that I’m glad you are. I wouldn’t have a name for a boy.” She laughs a little, watching as she stumble staggers those few steps to her teat to eat. Lee’s heart is full and it’s in her eyes as she turns to Nevi, his lips pressing against her cheek. “Look at her, she’s beautiful. She’s ours Nevi.” She takes a moment to lean into his solid strength, before she steadies herself and lets him get a long look at their girl.

He kept his cool. Outwardly, at least. Coaxed her through contractions, stood by her side, fussed over her gently as she let him and gave her a bit of space as she needed. His Lee was a champ, though, and it wasn’t...well, it felt like an eternity while it was happening, probably far moreso for her, but eventually it was over. Their little baby was really here, a soft, sweet little girl with his coloring, and god, perfect little wings that glowed softly at her sides.
He pressed a kiss to Lee’s forehead, lipped gently at her forelock. “You did so good, baby,” he crooned softly, so damn proud of her. And then. Then of course he had to get a closer look at their little marvel, helping clean her off and fuss over her and shower her with kisses. “Hello, beautiful Lilette,” he murmured, smiling at her. “Welcome to the world, little angel. We’re gonna take the best care of you, okay?” A soft little kiss to her forehead in turn, of course, and he kept right on cleaning her, breathing in the smell of their new baby and honestly okay already getting himself wrapped right around her metaphorical little finger.

Her world is warm and dark and cozy, until it no longer is. Until she is force out into a world that is clearly so much larger than she is. Her body trembles beneath the shock, shudders against the cold. She bleats softly, a soft nose pressing against her reassuringly. A warm tongue cleaning her off. Her world is off kilter, spinning on the wrong axis that she had been so used too. But she blinks her eyes open, blinks them until the blurriness fades to the edges. She sees them, the two large darker shapes around her. One she knows by the sound of her voice, but she knows the other too. Just not as intimately.
Mom. Dad. Both names she attaches to their faces, some instinctive thing snapping into place. She takes the words, adding to it Lilette, which was her. There is more warmth, more grooming as they both cleaned her, lips nuzzling and touching.
She would learn later that it was awe they were feeling. Pride. And so much love. She is sleepy, wants to cuddle up into this warmth and love and comfort and fall asleep. But her tummy growls first. So she stagger-steps up onto her hooves. Leaning into both of her parents a bit until she is steady. When she is steady she works on walking until she can nose her way up into where the food smells the best.
She eats, noisily with slurps and gulps. Like it’s the best meal she has ever had, which perhaps she guesses it is.
She blinks sleepily up at them both a small smile curling her milk-touched whiskers before she is settling back down between the two of them, half laying on both their hooves. And because she is full, she is soon sprawling herself out. She sleeps then, because being born is hard work.
She was absolutely perfect. Lee’s heart was so full. She never knew, never knew the love that could encompass one’s heart when they looked upon their child. It brings back memories of her back, new worries and whys. Why had her birth mother abandoned her? Hadn’t she felt this kind of love for her? Or had she looked upon her and felt disgust? But no, there had always been that moment of love, or caring. So brief, so very brief, but it had been there...hadn’t it?
And then there had been Nevi, who stole her damn heart the very moment she laid eyes on him. He had taken her home, added her to his already large family. Then she had let them all down, said things that had broken whatever relationship she had had with Offspring, perhaps even Isle…. But Nevi...he still had that, so she was glad for that.
Even if all she knew as him. Even if she considered him, and now Lilette her only family. Because she didn’t belong anywhere else. She had learned that long ago.
But their little Lilette? Well, she would know nothing but love and adoration from the two of them. She expected their family to be large, large enough to love so many. And it wouldn’t matter if they were from their blood or not.
She clears the hard thoughts from her mind, focusing on this moment. She sighs happily, leaning into him when she can, laughing a little when Lilette sprawls out across their hooves. Lee takes in the way she looks like her dad, amazes herself with the fact that her little wings were glowing softly. “She is not going to be very good at hide and seek with those.” Lee says with an amused little smile, leaning down to gently ruffle the feathers with her lips, even as her nose inhales the scent of new baby and milk.
Mine. His. Ours. The thoughts are instinctive as she hovers with soft touches over their daughter. Her lips then turning to find the curve of his cheek. “I love you Nevi.”
Ugh god, his heart. She was an angel, and he could barely breathe when she blinked those gorgeous doe eyes up at him. Yep. Just like that, he was lost. His perfect little angel with her glowing wings. He hovered close while she struggled to her feet, fighting hard to let her find her way up instead of trying to swoop in and help her. Until she was up, and leaning into both of them, and just stealing the heart right out of his chest with how adorable she was. He glanced at Lee, eyes melty-soft and the world’s dopiest grin on his face like look what we made, isn’t she amazing?
He showered love on his Lee while their baby nursed, pressing soft little kisses to her forehead, brushing her hair out of her face, murmuring sweet nothings and telling her how utterly perfect she was and how good a job she did bringing their girl into the world. And then clearly it was naptime, and a well deserved one at that. Baby Lilette curled up to sleep at their feet, and he beamed at his loves as Lee fussed gently over their daughter(!).
“That’s okay,” he murmured, trailing the soft of his nose along Lee’s neck. “We’ll just make sure she doesn’t need to hide, then, huh?” They’d take the best care of their little angel. And unlike both of them, baby Lilette would never wonder for a moment if she was good enough, if her mommy and daddy loved her. Not for a single heartbeat.
He pressed a soft kiss to the line of his Lee’s jaw, nuzzled there gently. “I love you too, Lee,” he murmured, and he swore his smile took up his whole face, but he couldn’t help it. He didn’t think he’d ever been this happy, not in his whole life. “You’re perfect. And so is she.” image copyright Martin Stranka
They were always with each other. Delighting in the things that Lilette learned, teaching her all they knew and loving her more than anything. Lee was tempted to say more than each other, but that was not possible. When she looked at him, at her, her heart was so full that there was nothing else that could be more. Lee lived for Nevi, for their little angel Lilette.
She sighs as she leans against him, against his solid body. Her lips trail soft trails down his neck, nibbling along the base of his cheek with a happy little smile. Lilette was growing and getting bigger, wanting more and more independence from her parents who hovered over her every waking moment and drowned her in love.
Lee could see this, and would linger back with Nevi sometimes, letting their imp slip from their eyesight every so often. She knew he saw it too. Her Nevi was always noticing more things than she was. Their daughter was a year old now and wanted to wander and learn on her own, without her parents no matter how much she loved them, and was love in return. “She’s getting so big Nevi. Why can’t she stay so small?” She says with a soft sigh, watching as Lilette wandered ahead of them.
@[Neverwas] Bleeeeeh sorry this sucks. I wanted to write something to him, but Lee is not being very forthcoming.
