    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Once she is done speaking, her gaze moves from one ruler to the other. When looking at Warrick she sees his smile, and in return, she offers him one of her own. The opalescent queen, on the other hand, seemed to not care much for any of her spoken words. Much to Amorette’s disappointment. Not that she had thought that she could change Sabra’s heart and mind, but it was nice to hope. Being ignored came secondary in this case.

Perhaps that is why Warrick steps up and takes a more direct route. Though Amorette knows him to not beat around the subject, but never had she expected him to be this direct. It is enough to make her look at him, and when she does, she instantly notices the gleam in his eyes. Okay, perhaps not as direct and blunt as she had thought. His humor makes her lips curl up into a smile. When their gazes meet she nods at the navy stallion, encouraging him to continue.

She stays silent once Warrick is done speaking, allowing the words to settle in. The ebony mare would confirm his words, but what good would that do? Warrick knows she stands behind him, and she wants Sabra to learn he is a man of his words on her own.

Yet the change in the opalescent queen isn’t one Amorette had expected. Her ears flick forward, and the smile that had first been invisibly forced, now becomes genuine. Oh yes, Sabra first had to put weight to her words, but the words are a good start. ”And in return, we can learn plenty from you too” she offers. If Sabra could show a more humble side of herself, Amore could too. Not to compete, but to show she was willing to give and take, in order to start a good relationship between Sylva and Tephra.

Again, she addresses Warrick only. Allowing them a moment, her gaze moves away. Though she does not physically remove her presence. Amore is looking in the direction where Lamb had disappeared to. The memory of the young mare makes her smile. ”Queen Sabra,” she gently calls for the queen’s attention, her gaze searching Sabra’s aqua eyes. ”I invited Lamb to visit Tephra. The invitation extends to you, too, if you like. It would be a honour to give you both a tour.”

Oh yes, there still stands something stiff between them, but Sabra had allowed to let them peek into her true being. And Amorette meant her prior words. She, like Warrick, wants Tephra and Sylva to be friends, and not enemies. Getting to know one another is the first step in order to accomplish that.

we are crooked souls trying to stay up straight
    Gentle-spirited, understanding, and open-minded.

These are all things that could easily describe the Tephran Overseer, and perhaps could be perceived as traits to wish for in a king. But there are times - many times - where Warrick wishes his heart wasn’t so tender, so hopeful. It holds him back from being a powerful leader, but he simply cannot help his slow-to-anger personality. He has learned to work with his gentleness, and has learned the loyalty that is instilled within himself, which has taught him ferocity when needed. However, he cannot help but survey Sabra with a tiny prick of his brows upwards - she is cautious and though not callous, she is not keen on making it easy for them (as strangers) to come into her home. He admired it, despite the fact that Warrick would not do the same thing.

How funny - that the two vastly different leaders are somehow comparing themselves to one another, not knowing the other secretly wishes for what the other had.

“Perhaps when we’ve come to know each other better, an official alliance can be discussed. As for now - know that Tephra will not search out your people or yourself besides in good will.” He smiles warmly at the opalescent queen, a dip of his head accompanying the gesture, matching Sabra’s own movement. “A leader never stops learning,” he muses, noting that he has much to learn just as she does.

‘Don’t give me a reason to regret it.’

The sternness is there - firm, unwavering. But there is a glimmer of amusement, a sparkle in the darkness of her eyes - and Warrick smiles. There is something there, something that has been set alight, which Warrick takes as a sliver of hope between the two countries. “On my honor, Queen Sabra.” the blue-bay stallion replies, with a dip to his head.

Amorette extends her invitation beyond Lavendel, and Warrick snorts softly in agreement. “Please,” he says shortly after, his voice genuine. “A flight over Tephra’s sea is both a sight to see and an adventure in itself,” he tells her, his blue wings rustling against his frame, the smell of salt and smoke stirring from the movement.

“Goodnight, Sabra, and hopefully we will be seeing one another very soon.” With a smile, and a flick of an ear towards Amorette, the winged-stallion and his confidant turn to begin the journey home.
