    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

[mature]  what do you fear, little Zephyr?

He moved like a lynx. A hell-ridden cat whose fur was full of mange and maggots and flies were eating him from the inside out. You could see his ribs through the patches of ashy fur. He had no eyes to see as he groped his way - slithered, more like - through the trees, bending this way and that, his black acid tongue hanging out of his mouth while two sets of perfectly matched fangs dripped the black blood of an insane fox that he had dispatched of.

Deimos, it seems, has developed a taste for blood.

Though, in the days after Taiga, he had escaped handily while the rest of them suffered, and had left Gryffen and his ramshackle band to wile away their last days in the deciduous forests of the world. Fall was always his favorite time of year. The time of Dying. The world was cold and dark and wet, much like the nameless mares he chased in this season. Each one started out the same - They all said no - but by the end, they were all screaming his name.

And yet, the animal was not sated.

There is a thrumming. A thrumming buzzing sound that he cannot shake. As if someone or something is calling to him. It makes him hard and lusty and he yearns for the flesh and the death of another.

Even Thana, who normally could slake his lust, was not around for him to take his aggression out on.

And so the demon paces about angrily, hungrily, on all four paws, searching out that one thing that has eluded him.

And when he found it - by God he would silence the humming.

She'd be lying if she said Carnage had not changed her.

His mark, a permanent reminder of all she had been through, her eyes, a gift for all she had sacrificed. But had she sacrificed for the right reasons?

She thinks of him often, as much as she had that first night home in Tephra. Years had passed but the nightmares remain, present even when she is not sleeping. The demon no longer attacks her, but it is there. She can feel its eyes watching her, ever present and unwavering. At night, she can see him lurking in the shadows, blood (her blood) dripping from its teeth, golden eyes following her. She thinks of him now more as a friend (her only friend), so his presence is easier to shake off than it had been before.

Darkness is a cloud that has surrounded her the entirety of her life, even with her gift of vision. Hell, she wore the mark of the Dark God on her face, how could she escape it?

The scar of Deimos around her eye throbs almost continuously. Sometimes, it burns, sometimes it causes a horrendous migraine that could last for hours, days even.  Zephyr is not sure why, but so much pain had plagued her, she figured why not a little more?

Something had drawn her here, of all places to be. She had typically avoided forests (too many places for predators to hide, too many objects to avoid) when she was blind, so now it was force of habit. Alabaster legs pull her through the trees, early morning fog casting an eerie glow around her. She would've been afraid, had she not grown used to creepy things.

Her eye throbs steadily as she moves, almost like it had its own heartbeat. It thumps so loud, she can hear it in her ears. The deeper into the woods she goes, the more painful the throbbing becomes, the louder it gets.

    thump, Thump, THUMP

The cycle continues until it is almost unbearable. Her ears begin to ring as if she had been hit by some malevolent force. Had it ever hurt this bad before? She cannot even bring herself to scream, any more movement and she might just burst.

And then it stops. No throbbing, no ringing, no pain. She brings herself to look up, milky eyes finding the black of a stallion's. She would've thought this was the demon, had it not been for the color of his eyes. Was it Carnage again? Had she even seen him in his lair?

Confusion is evident in all her features. She cannot bring herself to speak as she stares at him. How had he found her?

Or had he been there all along?

@[Deimos] okay so basically the same demon she fought in the Carnage quest still follows her around, just to clear that up lmao.

The humming was getting louder. Deimos was getting near it then. He knew it. The burning sensation in his skull was driving him mad, but it was also calling to him like a lover that he's known all his life. With a growl, he stalks, looking. Seeking.

He would find it, dammit. He would find it.

He crawled through the trees continuing to seek it out, ever seeking seeking. The son of mars was in pain and he knew it well. It felt good on him. A familiar burning, the scent of his own flesh cracking and peeling away as he drew closer to it.

    To her.

He steps, slinking ever closer, and He looks with black eyes at the mark the at is deeply ingrained across her eye. Cut into the flesh and closed shut by the welding of magic and fire. She moves, unsteady and silent, as if she too is in pain.

Deimos does not care... He heaves, lifting himself up and gaining strength in his forehand, a dark, menacing growl piecing her ears as images of pain and of death and torture seep into her head - the black fingers of his mind squeezing her head, pushing on her ever so hard. "Where...did...you... get that...mark?" he growls before leaping on her - black wings pushing out and grabbing her face with those claws of his.

    He would have his answers.

Zephyr does not understand why he is angry with her, they had never even met each other before. Had they? The scar on her forehead burns as he stares at it, as if she had done something wrong. Before she can speak a word he is standing on his hind legs, growling at her through those clenched teeth, grabbing at her mind with such menacing vigor that she can barely contain herself.

She falls to her knees as the image of the demon comes back. He hadn't attacked her in so long, that she is surprised when he is upon her, all teeth and claws, trying to kill her where she stood (or that's how it seemed). Her fear of the world around her had dissipated with Carnage's gift, but now she feels it again. It pulses through her, her once steady heartbeat growing faster with each passing moment.

Where...did...you...get that...mark? The stranger asks as he leaps on her, claws digging into her face. She tries to pull back, but they just dig deeper into her flesh, and the painful reminders of what Carnage had done to her come flooding back. He couldn't be the dark god, not with how he asks where the marking had come from.

"Carnage! It was Carnage!" She admits to him. She has told few what had happened to her all those years ago, but she felt like she didn't have a choice. At this point, she was at his whim. "He gave me it in his lair..." Her voice trails before the words "to show how fear has stopped me" escape her lips. She looks into his black eyes again, and lets out a quiet gasp.

    It couldn't possibly be...could it?

He snarls, pleased to have finally found his quarry. Little Zephyr was it? Like the wind. Well she ceratainly wasn't going to be blowing around any other dark gods any time soon. Deimos squeezes into Zephyr's face, before releasing her from his grasp - small droplets of blood pool there in those holes of his making before crying red tears down the side of her alabaster skull. Oh, to taste blood again, His massive wings pumped once, agitatedly as he pushes away from her in a speed that belied his size.

Fire in his eyes burns the spot that bears his name, and his nostrils flair as he pulsates, surging his energy into her. his lip is curled and his mane and tail are replaced by black fire and shadow as he drawls out his words. "Carnage may have given you that brand... but it is not his name to give!" He steps closer to her then, his hooves transforming back, his magic withering to show his true form.

Hooves cracked and broken, covered in a slick oil that dripped from his still beating heart rattling against the necessity of his rib cage. His body falls apart, having died three times, Hellspawn that was spat back out. his flesh falls to the ground at his feet as he appraoaches, melting into puddles of black ash and tar that smoked and stunk putrid rotting stench of death. Deimos is undone.

He is bone, and heart, and black flesh dripping. He is the son of Mars."Look in to my eyes, Little Zephyr. My name is Deimos. You bear my brand on your pretty little face."

A black forked tongue retreats from his jaws, running down the side of her face on the side where her brand is. A black fog rolls in - there is no escape for her now. "You now belong to me."

Carnage had given her the mark to show what fear does to a horse, to show what it can hold one back from. The grip Deimos has around her face releases, and droplets of blood trickle down her face and stain her alabaster cheeks. She steps back as the force of his wings hit her face, a hellsent demon wind nearly knocking her off her feet. Her shoulders and chest rise in distress as she pulls in a shaky breath.

"Where is Krigare now?" Carnage's tortuous voice whispers in her ears. The stallion's body drips black, putrid tar, ready to pull her in like an ocean wave. Her face is blank, she stands motionless, milky eyes boring into his, heart thumping hard against her breast, threatening to burst out at any moment.

Was this what Carnage had planned? To give her the symbol of another demon, to keep tortured for the rest of her life? "But..." She breathes out, shaking her head at the fog that began to swarm around her, pulling her into the dark embrace of her captor. "No, please, please let me go!" She tries to move, but she cannot, her body is paralyzed, the fork of his tongue tickling her cheek in a rather unsavory way.

"You will be undone by fear, Zephyr, just as Deimos is undone." His voice is harsh, ringing violently in her ears. The demon had got her...oh fuck it had finally got her.
