    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The black and yellow mare wanders from the Meadow to the Field. It’s a short trip but she takes her time, observing her surroundings and others; it is spring time, and there is new life everywhere – ducklings, daffodils, darling children... The amount of newborn foals she is seeing means that she most likely has a new brother or sister by now.

The Field is not exactly bustling, but that does not put the black and yellow mare off any. The wide expanses of the tree-lined area is still somewhat of a novelty; she had forgotten how good it feels to be out of the claustrophobic embrace of the gigantic trees of the Taiga. If she felt guilt at leaving her family behind, it was only fleeting; she had told them she was going, this time, which is more than last time… At least now they wouldn’t wonder. It’s not like she was going to go far, either – she’d come back and visit, to see them all and to see her new sibling… but for now, she feels it is time to forge her own path, her own identity. It’s time to find out how she is. She has her roots, good, steady grounding roots – now she wants to know what kind of flower she will blossom into.

Yes, she had been living in the shadows of the redwoods for too long, and she couldn’t deny that the sun felt good against her back. She walked a little way in, bent her head, cropped at the grass at her feet, although she wasn’t hungry. She felt…weird. Excited, she realised. She was looking forward to whatever might happen, or might not happen. She restlessly lifted her head and wandered further into this commonland.

show them the joy and the pain and the ending

There is a restlessness that stirs inside of her. So much has happened these last few months that it feels almost odd to be at loose ends. Even her children have left her, abandoning her for the playground. And so she is left alone in Nerine, her feet restless and her mind perhaps even more so.

So she does what she always does when she cannot settle. She leaves, heading for the common areas, for a new face and a new story. Something to keep her mind sharp and entertained. But today she does not find herself heading towards the meadow or forest, as is so often her wont. Instead she finds her feet carrying her towards the field. Towards those seeking new things.

It is not a place she often visits, though perhaps she should. Today however, she finds it to be exactly the diversion she needs. She is careful in her approach, though perhaps to outward appearances, that would not seem so. No, outwardly, she appears as only a mare, a dark blue roan with white patches lacing across her skin and vibrant blue eyes that take in the field and it’s inhabitants in one quick sweep. Her gaze settles on a mare the color of the sun and night sky for only a moment before she is approaching.

Her sight however, is unique. She can see so much that others cannot, And she sees something in this mare that makes her an interesting candidate, though she is often all too tight-lipped about just what it is she sees. Instead she offers a small smile as she nears, her head dipping slightly in greeting.

Tilting her head, she studies for a long moment before offering an introduction. ”I am Heartfire.” Pause. ”I would ask you what brings you here, but it seems such a trite question, considering.” The faintest hint of humor can be heard in her bold tone, an acknowledgment of the often overused greeting.

The warm spring day keeps Crota moving through the tall grasses as the early signs of new life make their way into Beqanna. It's beautiful this time of year when the baby birds hatch from their eggs, the butterflies crack free from their cocoons... Everywhere one looks, there was something new to see, to take in and admire. Throughout the lands the trees were blooming and becoming green as can be, while the wildflowers gently upwrapped themselves from their tiny buds. And though it seems almost as though she lives here lately rather than amongst the hills, even in the field there are many new things making their appearance in response to the spring season.

As she stands in the meadow, her bright blue eyes trace over the small creatures with their freshly hatched or birthed young ones and a small smile tugs at the corners of her pink lips. For a while she zones out, almost entranced by the freshly created world around her. That is until a bright yellow catches the corner of her eye, directing her attention to the black and yellow ombre mare. With a tilt of the head she watches her curiously, completely surprised at the bright coloring. Unlike the majority Crota had yet to see such extreme colors and though she had known and seen the abilities that existed within Beqanna lands she had not yet come to know that horses truly could be the colors of the rainbow as well.

For a while the small spotted mare continues to watch her as she moved closer and closer until another (one of a blue roan color she has seen many times before) finally makes their approach. For a while she waits, trying her hardest to be patient; she doesn't want to approach as soon as the other, for doing so could overwhelm the other and she didn't want to do that. No. She wanted to prevent the unusual colored mare from feeling pressured. And so she waited; until finally the first to approach introductions were out of the way.

Stepping forward the spotted mare's short yet muscular legs carry her towards the two until finally she has joined their group and coming to a stop she nods in welcome to the both of them. "Hello, I'm Crota," turning her attention mostly to Arete, she grinned. "I like your colors, they are quite pretty." It's a statement as innocent as they come and she means no harm by it. "Are you enjoying this weather?" It's a simple question, but why rush?
