    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Threaded helplessly between bodies that belonged to restless female equines, a petitely framed arabian mare hid amoungst the crowds of others. Light cascaded off of the greys ghostly appearance, dancing off the withers of every other equine that was in view. After an endless journey of lonesome, the mare that took the name of Aaliyah had ended up in the rolling valleys where many would go to seek shelter. While many equines grazed patiently, the mare held her cranium high with the aspiration to find a place in this world of many. She was one out of thousands who roam, and the mare could not help but look any less significant as she swished her tail at the appearance of nats and flies. the mare snorted a restless tune, wanting so much more than to wait to be picked from a house-less litter. Scanning her surroundings, the young mare was taken aback by the beauty. Her neck hung in a quiet manner as she watched the trickling streams thrash into the currents that had belonged to a more or less simple lake. Shaking out her mane (which stretched past the Arabians neck), she returned to her business. To wait, to be discovered, to be taken.
Restless hours drawn by and the mare couldn't help but wonder of her future and of what lies ahead of her. Though now she lay tired and weak under a shaded oak that lie near the center of the listed province. Waves of recognition of past events flooded to her, in waves of collected misery. The gentle body that lay in deep sleep could not have suffered more, as she had basically raised herself after the horrid event that would soon unfold in the mares once curious mind. A tragic story of heartache and loss hid behind her faint mask, causing her to lose not only her herd and family, but her own offspring that she'd cherished with one of the most rich and valued hearts. Ever since the wretched event played out, the mare hadn't been been quite the same. A once vibrant equine now lay silent to the tragic sounds that will forever echo in her mind, haunting her for eternity. As day drew to night and the light that once shown ever so brightly dissipated into an abyss of darkening skies, specs of stars shown out over the heads of many. It was the mares first night in the valley, and she could not have felt any more at peace with her current self, minding the scarred past. Her dewed, caramel eyes hung open, watching the motionless bodies overlap the sight that sat before the grey. While many dozed off to slumber, a moon shown over the lands of which would be the mares home, and aaliyah watched the crescent with the aspiration of a second chance, wondering if some equine was looking back to her, or f that specific equine would help shape her to the mare she had once stood to be. And if they could ever begin to fixtat the mare, where in the world would they start? Her wounds lay deep, and her past buried under her dreary bones. While she was once young and wild, the mare had found herself dry and bleak.

Black  was standing on his hill over looking the Field. His coal black eyes searched the field looking for anyone looking for a stallion or looking for someone to take care of them. His nose flared intaking a new scent. it was the smell of someone new had entered the field. He trotted towards the open field moving his head side to side looking for where the smell was coming from. When he finally caught a glimpse of a elegant slim grey creature standing in the open field just over the crest of a hill. He stood there studying her and looking to see if she was alone or if she had someone with her.

He slowly approached her cautiously so not to scare her off. His black legs strongly carried him towards her inch by inch. His muscles puffing up to look strong and inviding. He stretched his nose out and touched her gently. But softly so not to startle her. "Hello Madame, are you here alone?" He watched her looking at her studying her movements. How the wind blew threw her mane. He noticed she looked like shes been through a lot. Her body covered with deep cuts and scars. Made him wondering her story. This little mare seemed like she has been through a lot. He loved a mystery and a challenge but there was something about her that wanted him to learn more about her.

"My name is Black, would you like some company?"He stepped closer to her so she doesn't see him as a threat.

Night's vacant moon was hanging in the bleak sky; the end of winter was still cold and dull, still uncooperative at best. He found himself in the field once more. All this interaction, it was quite becoming for the grey demon. He found himself with a little purpose, a little bit more of an angle in life. Yet he was still a sloth at heart. He bobbed in, the sky his road, his broad wings his mode of transportation, much preferred. His pale form moved ghostly, serenely in the night's light. Dark eyes watching, waiting, stalking the field with intentions that even he knew nothing of. What he did he did out of sheer apathy. Do something, then lull, think about it and do something again. He was finding that the ridge was becoming quite a statement, a home if you will. And he was starting to feel like the sloth demon of days of old, was starting to finally grow up.

Sort of like Peter Pan, but a lazier, more handsome version.

Nier clocked the grey Arabian; her lithe build a beacon in the dark field, among the throng of bodies, she stood out. His own pale frame shifted and he took a slow descend, careful with his entrance. These mares could startle easily. But he gave her the benefit of the doubt, he'd land near her, fully visible. When he was about to land, ebony feet touch the ground, he saw another approach her. All words, all eye. His black body an imposing shadow upon the moonlit field. Nier flicked his tail, glided over his hocks. he cocked a hind hoof, tucked his pale wings beside him and stared first at the steed. Offered him no more than a simple acknowledgment, the slightest dip of his muzzle, but no more. His attention then turned to the pale wanderer, his eyes noticing things that were hidden, things deeper in her soul that crept out in things such as a little dullness in the eye, the way shoulders sagged with a weight that was not physically there.

"Evening." his tone is feather-light, burdened very little by emotion. the wrinkles in his muzzle twitched, some sort of a mock smile, mock smirk finding it's way upon his grey lips. "Nothing as haunting as a ghost in disguise. Tell me, Pet, why carry so much baggage on those delicate shoulders? It only means to burden."

Oh, his manners. The demon does forget them sometimes; only reminded when the black steed said his name.

    "I'm Nier."

The night had taken over the world she now lay in, stars flooding the darkened sky, carelessly strung between currents of what lay above all else. Her cranium tucked away into the safety of her barrel, the petitely framed mare seeked her own value of shelter. While she wasn't one of the more protected, healthier mares, Aaliyah could still pick a fight if she was not pleased with the presence of another. However now, strung out in an ocean of others identical to herself, she was anything but powerful. The mare was weak, thrown, and discobobulated. Where had her spirit gone? With the wind, you'd suppose. the grey equine had no intention of fighting for her own freedom, she had lacked the energy and the anthem of triumph. All the while, stuck in her own haunted nightmares, the frail mare awoke to a padding of hooves. She had yet to have interaction with a stallion, the only other equine that had cared to speak with her was a more snarky mare. As the charcoal coated male approached her, the female couldn't help but lift her cranium. She hadn't a clue what to expect, The future had proved to be unknown to her. She shot into a sudden movement, preparing herself for whatever the male had wanted from her. After stretching her body out and standing, the mare nipped at her barrel: an agitated wound rested there, crusted blood engrossing the certain patch it lay on.
“Hello Madame, are you here alone?” A voice called out to her, a curious tune vibrating through the stallions vocal cords. His voice was not exactly rigid, however it was louder and sharper than the mares that would graze in the current fields. it was so quiet, so peaceful before. She almost felt as if the stallion had intruded, but then realized it wasn't her land he intruded on. “Hello, Black.” The mare strung out her voice, enphasizing the 'ack'. “My calling is Aaliyah (A-ali-yah). I wouldn't mind company.” She said, sweetness braiding through her words. The mare was in no way rude, and it was almost always seen as a sin to be impolite to another soul. Looking past the males shadey figure, the equine saw a second head pop from the darkness that had consumed the province whole.
“Evening.” He called out to her, voice cold. Her blood rain cold, and she wasn't so sure why. He didn't seem threatening, but there was something about the stallion that had set her off. “Nothing as haunting as a ghost in disguise. Tell me, Pet, who carry so much baggage on those delicate shoulders? It only means to burden.” Set off my his statement, his rhetorical, foggy question, her ears swiveled. “I'm Nier.” He'd told her, introducing him self to the two equines that stood before her. “I go by Aaliyah, it is quite a pleasure.”

The black stallion approached her. Letting her see what he really looked like. He was a big muscular stallion all black. With a medium length mane that covered half of his face. He watched this elegant mare she looked like she was in pain some. But couldn't figure out what was wrong. Its a pleasure to meet you Aaliyah. He said with a kind expression on his face. It was an honor to be in a presence of her. He caught a glimpse of her looking at her side. He moved his head to the side and saw that she had a huge deep wound on her side. He ran off and came back within seconds. He came back with a plant. He placed it on the ground and stomped on it. Extracting the liquid that was inside. He slowly moved towards the mare's side. Waiting for assurance it was okay. He pressed the plant against her deep wound. Im sorry but it may hurt alittle Aaliyah I apologize but it will help it feel better. He pressed the liquid against her side. It was a special plant that he used to use when he was healing his wounds.

He saw another creature approach but he had wings. He stood between Aaliyah and this winged creature. Pushed the mare back just protecting her since she was wounded.

He stepped closer to Aaliyah would you be interested in coming with me? I will promise you, you will be safe.

The black steed was rather pushy, Nier thought. Now the demon never thought himself the angel -- but he was in a way, a demon in angel's clothing -- but he had never assumed he was a delight to the fairer gender. He knew sometimes, he was equally charming as some might find him repulsive. But as his dark eyes watched the mare and the steed, he noticed the overbearing suffocation he seemed to have over her. He took a moment to remember, had he been with her when they stepped in the field? No, he didn't recall. and, he offered his name. Hmm. The ghostly steed took another watchful gaze, finding the mare and her obvious fatigue and wounds.

He was silent then, the sloth demon, silent and watchful. He noted the ebony steed as he left momentarily, finding things like some sort of gatherer. It reminded him of what Star had done for the black mare in the Ridge. A proverbial eyebrow rose, but again he said nothing, simply watched. And once more he thought, overbearing.

"Aaliyah." he tasted her name, like some sweet hawthorne. "It looks like you need some stability, Aaliyah." an obvious statement, but he was at a loss for the right words. When the sloth in him surfaced, or rose it's demonic head, he was at a loss for most, but now he simply watched, quietly. Yet when the black steed, Black, turned like some aggravated creature, Nier gave a snort, a low chuckle breaking his silence.

"It looks as though my presence is hitting certain nerves in you. It's not like i'm the one that did this to the poor thing." he turned his eye to the sleek mare. "Obviously someone has quite the history. But Welcome to Beqanna, Aaliyah, the kingdom that judges none for their past; I'm still here, after all." a smooth laugh, trying to clutch vain attempts of breaking such the suffocating atmosphere. He was unsure if he could be the joker, the one that lifts the unease, he was also uncertain if he'd try again. He offered an extended nose, ears twitching forward.

he paused and turned his attention to the black steed, "Of course if I'm not treading on anyones toes."

"I seem to be late to the party," he says softly, appearing from the shadows, his dark eyes cast into darkness. His accent is a reminder of his grandmother, a gentle Spanish mare who he shares more with than his demon-father or angel-mother.

The male horses circle her like she is some kind of delectable meat; like bare-headed vultures. He, instead, stands a distance away with his tawny wings clasped at his sides. He has no wish to overwhelm the mare, the ghost.

For now, the stallions seemed just irritating as opposed to dangerous, so he wasn't overly worried about that.

And should the worst come to the worst, well, he was more than capable of driving a couple of bats away.

"My name is Cezary." he says, by way of introduction to the gathered horses. The buckskin stallion had picked up the mare's name as she had introduced herself to Nier, so he found that there was no need to ask her that. His eyes roam to the gash on her side covered in plant gunk, and he tilts his head in concern. "Do you need a healer, Aaliyah?" he asks, since no-one has bothered to ask what she needs or even wants. "Not that your plant salve is useless, of course, but mending is generally quicker and less painful with magic." he smiles to Black Ranger to let him know he is not trying to slight his attempts at fixing her up.
