    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

the dead are gone, and the living are hungry.

This trip she is at least looking forward to somewhat. Her last trip to the Falls had been fairly pleasant - the king and diplomats had been friendly and welcoming, despite their lack of desire for an alliance - and she’d left the place with a pleasant feeling in her belly.

    The Chamber though …

Even though the meeting had gone … decently (she is alive, isn’t she?), the thought of treating with the Chamber still leaves an unpleasant taste in her mouth. Her mother had died there, her sisters had died there, her blood sister had died there … sort of. To have offered them peace … it feels like a betrayal.

But that’s the cost of politics isn’t it?

She huffs quietly to herself as they reach the border and she glances at where her companion surely follows, hoping Malka hasn’t noticed her disquiet. It’s not the Falls she feels uncomfortable with after all, just the Chamber, and this trip is actually a potential positive note in her week.

Her brown eyes turn back to the Falls ahead and she pauses, just enjoying the landscape before her. The kingdom is as green as the Jungle, but that’s where the similarities end - a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees dot the green hills that roll away down towards the gorgeous waterfall that she cannot see, but can just barely hear. It must be a lovely place to live. She is particularly partial to the Jungle of course, but the Falls, the Falls she wouldn’t mind.

Now is not really the time to dwell on the scenery however. She raises her head and lets out a loud call to whomever can hear. Hopefully Kreios will be close - she’d found him quite pleasant - and perhaps Ygritte. She hadn’t had the chance to meet the queen on her last visit.

Even if the new arrival had been calling for the king and the queen, Anahi knew that either a warrior or a diplomat would arrive first to investigate. In this case, it was the champagne mare, accompanied by her weanling son, Aten. The two of them had been lurking in the Cobblestone, grazing with the herd earlier in the day. Nerius had come to fetch his brother to teach him some things about learning to be a warrior, something Aten had expressed desire in. Not seeing anything wrong, as long as the lesson didn't go too far, Anahi let her sons depart.

However, Nerius had called soon after, expressing that he had a training session with Raxa and Nitika to attend. Once again accompanied by her son, Anahi had been on her way back to the Cobblestone when she heard the call.

Knowing that she wouldn't have time to go drop off Aten, Anahi went to check the matter out. She recognized the mare when she saw her from the distance; Lexa, from the Jungle territory. Remembering their last meeting, the champagne mare walked up to the other, dipping her head as a sign of greeting.

"Lexa. It is good to see you again," she stated, glancing down at her son to remind him to be on his best behavior while he was here with them.
