    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

So let your heart, sweet heart
Be your compass when you're lost

It is a warm sunny afternoon. The sun is hanging high up in the sky, populated with white, fluffy clouds. The birds are flying and chirping throughout the air, singing a loving tune. Madelyn hums along with the tune of the birds – at least as best as she can with what vocals she was born with. Often she wishes she could she sing like the birds but she knows she was unlikely ever to do that. Instead, she just enjoys their presence with a huge smile on her face.

Madelyn has always enjoyed the simple things in life. She looked upon the world with wonderlust in her eyes like a child does for the first time. In many ways though Madelyn was a child. She often spoke in riddles and phrases. She had taken on quite a lot of her mother’s personality, particularly a dreamer. It was strange for the obvious adult mare to be this way considering her mother had abandoned her once she could fend for herself (Madelyn had been a product of rape). She should have grieved and looked for her mother when she was left alone but she never did that. Simply, she accepted her fate and never asking why (even the knowledge of why her mother seemed to hate her never bothered her either).

Maybe Madelyn had been blessed with what happened after she was left by her mother. She had left the Dale one day after her mother suddenly disappeared and lived in the Meadow for some time. There in the Meadow she grew up and eventually left with her old friend, Tiernan, to live in Cobblestone Creek. She had grown to love the company of the older man and his strange accent. In fact, she often thinks of him and misses him.

Eventually, the mare pulls her hazel eyes away from the sky and looks out into the field. There are many others here but Madelyn isn’t bothered by that. It was spring after all. It’s also a lovely day! She admits freely to herself with another smile that curves her lips upwards. Madelyn is already looking forward to the day. She has come here to find a new home, ready to begin a life with someone new – someone to take care of her (which is what she always has preferred). So, she simply stands in the field, letting the sun soak her up and a small grin lingers on her delicate, yet thin lips.

Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.

It is with a smile that he sees her here amongst the Field with a smile on her face and a confident stride as she makes her way through the place almost as if she owns it. Perhaps she does. Perhaps she would find someone that would do better by her than he had so long ago, but he cannot help himself as he moves closer to her. She should have her chance to find that wildfire love he still yearned for. He finds himself not really searching, more hoping to fall into it, so he made himself approach more than he usually would.

But damn if he didn't want a home and a gaggle of foals and mares to love.

He almost sighs at this thought, turning his mind back to the mare he was to approach. He remembers the times they had, playing in the water and in general just being near one another. He smiles as he reaches out his nose to touch her. "Maddie." He says, huffing softly into her nostrils (as he felt no need ever to lurk and linger when one could just approach straight on.) "How've ya been?" He says with another smile and his wonderful brogue.

He doesn't say that he misses her, no, not yet, even though he did. He remembered the way she would make him laugh sometimes when he felt so unsure of himself. Remembered when he had his few mares that he was okay with them going into Kingdoms if they wanted, and he would more than happily stay at home playing with the foals. It made him smile and made his heart hurt at the same time. He had only had one foal, one little girl who made his whole world feel a tad more complete. But it was another time, and he was willing to try a little harder this time if that was what he needed.
