    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Dig up her bones,
    but leave the soul alone

Her past is sorrow...her future unclear.  Why must everything be muted by a hazy fog?  Why must every decision that could be made, that should be made, turn into a mistake that haunts her?  Could she be considered clean? Kind? Young?  Age is just a number, and kind is a viewpoint.  One could be considered kind for sparing the life of a wandering soul.  But what if deep down that soul is evil or suffering?  Would it be kind to end their life?  Her viewpoint is shallow.  Naive and vain, like every other young mare that wanders through this land in hopes of being brought into a family.  Is she worth the trouble?

Everyone would like to think that they are worth the pain and trouble.  That somehow, someone will come along to save them and show them a better way of living.  That kind of thinking is basic, widespread and every young girls dream.  Everyone wants to be princess.  Does she?  There is a darkness in everyone, and it can be considered a blessing if you can see it and control it.  Some go mad trying to control their demons and losing. Those considered wise and thoughtful and beautiful have mastered their demons.  Those who are strong, heroic and brave are trying to hide theirs by showing how they can over come anything.  Anything but the inky thoughts that plague their mind.

    And then there's Bellfae.

She is aware of her darkness.  Her demons try and claw their way to the surface, but for the moment, she has full control of herself.  Who does she want to be?  Would it be good for her and others to become in complete control of herself?  Where is the fun in life if you can't be a little mad sometimes.  Crazy is what keeps the world from becoming a dull, grey, lifeless place.  Bellfae is at a crossroads in her life, where she can choose to live life how she is supposed to.  How others expect her to.  But what would happen if she traveled down the darker path, one shaded by crooked trees and where those who have fallen into madness lurk behind them?

If they aren’t broken then it’s their darkness that calls him forth. It’s a warm spring night and he prefers the coolness of the Chamber or the ice winds of his mountain home. However he is here, stalking the field. The Mountains are far too quiet these days. It seems to just be him, the little minnow, and their daughter. Wherever Saige has gone even the ravens don’t know. It’s not the first time a horse has just disappeared into thin air in these lands. And when she returns, as they are bound to do, he will hunt her down. Punish her. Put her back to where she belonged. For now though he will replace her. And this silver mare who has just appeared before him will do.

Crimson eyes narrow on her, seeing the shadows that play in her eyes. This one was a little more interesting than the broken ones he usually collected. This one had some double potential. Potential for the harem, potential for the Chamber… Perhaps. The wraith makes his way through the tall grasses, easily coming to her side silently and quickly. Yellowed teeth find their way to her shoulder, a sharp nip placed strategically as he hisses. ”You are mine.” He doesn’t like to mince words or waste time. He takes what is his, spirits it away, and plays with it later.

    Dig up her bones,
    but leave the soul alone

Her mind was occupied.  Busy with thoughts that lingered on the edge of dark and light.  There are so many things that could go wrong today.  So many things that might go right.  But nothing really ever goes right for her.  As she lurked through the field, she eyed the many wandering souls that didn't give her a moments glance.  The smaller animals were not important.  The younglings and the other mares she ignored as well.  It was the stallion or two that she kept her eye on.  A bay here, a buckskin there.  The colors were skin deep, but she wanted to know the nature of their darkness.  How bad could they be?

This filled her mind with vicious thoughts.  Thoughts that a young mare wouldn't dare let out.  They might get the wrong impression of her.  They might think of her as a harlot, or a trouble-maker.  Is she?  A slight smile played on her lips.  She could be trouble.  She took a step forward, but pulled it back.  Her anxiety set it.  Would the small dappled mare be welcomed, or cast aside.  Most likely the latter.  Why should she try to engage?  Try to play?

She hardly noticed the stranger slink along side her, but his teeth brought her mind back to the present. Her ears pinned and she swung her head around to bear her teeth at the rude mongrel who thought it okay to sink his incisors into her.  His hissed words reached her, and her heart started to pound.  Could he claim her?  Would she allow it?  Without a word, she swished her tail in annoyance and lifted her head, frowning at him.  Her mind, always questioning.  Who is he? What does he want? What does he have to offer?  What can she offer him?  Should she fight or play along?

Bellfae looked him up and down.  He was slightly taller then her, with an expression on his face like he knew just how to make her do what he wants.  Like he wants a fight....she isn't going to give it to him.  Though the thought of playing with the stranger was tempting, she wasn't in the mood.  She will obey...for now.

    "Then lead."

She dipped her head in sarcastic obedience, a grin that showed her teeth upon her maw.
