    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The Smoky Silver Gruella Pinto mare watched the sunrise. Her blue orbs gazed across the hushed field. A number of horses were still asleep, dew speckling their backs like a gentle, damp blanket. The female blink at the shear beauty, the auburn grass rolled in the gentle breeze. Shaking her arched neck, she threw droplets from her mane.

The morning was cool and crisp, a relief from the hot days of summer, and yet a foreboding of the chill of winter. She laid there until the sky was a rosy hue. The mare then rose and stretched, before walking over to a patch of dead flowers. Gedrinth smiled, knowing that they'd come back with life anew in the spring.

The birds began to break the silence, and more horses began to stir. Her ears flicked as she then started to nibble on the grass, watching the mist stir as reluctantly as some of the other horses rose.

    run away with me--
    lost souls and reverie

    running wild and running free

It is not often that the brindle stallion leaves his tropical home for the mainland of Beqanna, but as an autumn thunderstorm swept across the island, Gale seeks drier pastures.

Today he finds himself in the Field, a place that he has not been since Ruinam had first invited him to the Island Resort. Four years have passed since that encounter, and in that time Gale has gone from being a fresh recruit to the island’s chief, and grown from a gawky adolescent to a fully grown stallion.

He turns heads as he makes his way through the autumn-gold grasses, a handsome navy stallion with a snowy white mane that runs the length of his spine, spiraling ivory horns, and matching feathered wings. The streaks of white along his neck and shoulders are mostly hidden by the long fall of his mane, but even without them he is a difficult creature to miss.

So too is the pinto mare in front of him, illuminated by the rising sun. She is one of the few creatures awake so early, and Gale moves toward her.

“Hello!” he calls, settling a comfortable distance away from her. Near enough to talk, but hopefully not enough to make her feel uncomfortable or pressured. “My name is Gale. Are you here in search of a home?”

She hears the stallion approach, strong hoofbeats meet the earth. She looks at him, a softness about her.

"Yes,Gale. I am looking for a home." The pinto said. Her blue eyes shone against her gray face. "It's a lovely morning, isn't it?"

The pinto mare does not seem especially disturbed by his arrival, which Gale is grateful for. The world is not always a safe place, but that is no reason to live in perpetual fear. The mare, who has not yet introduced herself, emanates gentleness in a way that puts the brindle stallion immediately at ease. It reminds him of something he cannot quite put a name too.

Enjoyable for certain, and when she tells him that she is indeed in search of a home, Gale is intrigued by the prospect of having her at the Island Resort. The place can be a little lonely at times, especially since Ruinam and Divest had left. Eyas is good enough company, of course, but sometimes a horse wants to socialize with someone other than their twin sister.

“It’s a beautiful morning,” he agrees. “Better than the rain back home, too.” He says this lightly, having turned to look out over the rest of the Field, where a handful of other horses graze and chatter.

“I’d trade a few thunderstorms for never having to deal with snow though,” Gale continues. “My home is tropical, if a little quiet. What are you looking for in a place to call home?”
