    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Striped hooves glided softly across the babbling rushes of fresh creek water. The air was light, so clean, full of new spring forest scents. He loved this time of year, the birds were coming back to find their mates, new life blooms and the world seems at peace. The chestnut varnished stag knew not where his herd had gone, one morning they were just gone. He hung his head low, it had been a while now, he has spent his days alone here. At first he thought the peace and quiet was nice, but then days and weeks went by...they didn't come back.

Getting on to be sixteen, he realized it was not good to live alone. Depression plagued him for a while, he never left his home. There was nothing that could get him out, he wouldn't even take the not so long trek to the meadow to converse. He just...stood here. He hoped that maybe they would come back. But as season after season went by, he realized by Spring that is was a lost cause. But he could not shake the good feelings that Spring brought him, he finally stepped out of the creek and gave himself a good shake. Dust and winter coat went flying through the air along with little water droplets from his legs. He stretched out momentarily, stretching every muscle he could, and pushed into a steady walk.

Might as well patrol the borders of the territory.

With that he went on his way, quietly scanning the edges of his territory. Hoping in the back of his thoughts that his Latara and young Mishka come back to him and Cobblestone Creek. Every step his hopes would drop a little more, but he could not give up. For tomorrow is another day...and good things will come soon, he just can't give up and let himself die alone.
