    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Diable Rouge

Winter approached quickly upon his arrival in the Dale.

Diable Rouge was unacquainted with the frigidness of the season, having lived most of his life in warmer climates. Further, in his death, the afterlife's temperature was quite mild. So, Rou was not accustomed to a winter chill. His red coat grew thicker this year, but it was patchy, as if it couldn't decide how long he would need the warmth. Each bitter breeze came with a sharp shiver that the chaser felt down to his core, so he spent most of his time hiding in a den he had found close to the lake. He figured if he could survive this first winter, the next one would be better - or, at least he hoped.

Today, the sun was shining enough that Diable Rouge decided to treat himself for a walk to the lake. AuroraElis had taken a trip to visit a friend, and while Rou always desired more time with her, he thought maybe it would be a good time to meet some other citizens of the Dale. Rou sauntered towards the frozen lake, taking in the scenery. The conifers bare limbs were coated in thick layers of ice, glimmering in the afternoon light. A thin layer of powdered snow dusted the ground beneath him, and Rou acknowledged quietly to himself how glad he was to not have to be wet on top of his coldness.

The chaser reached the lake and pressed his hoof into its frozen surface. It crunched beneath him, allowing him just enough room to lower his head and take a drink. After having his fill, he lifted his head, searching for any sign of life around him.
I'm learning how to put the pieces back together, turn the aching to composure
