Dear Illios,
The fruits of our labour shall amount to nothing. The front is a bloody, gruesome mess - gods be damned for teaching Man the art of war. The enemy - France, or some such - has introduced new shells, and the fragments that explode out of them are what's tearing us down. Men, falling at every step, so many that I fear we will have none come fall. As of the last count, we have 969 men left to slaughter in this meaningless venture. Perhaps, by forward banking to the left at the front, we can counteract the pressure they've put on our horsemen. Gods willing, we'll come out on the other side with some men to tell of our failure. At any rate, if we do not die, we are most assuredly going to be ejected from France, no surprise there. Without a strong leader to defend us, we are no match for the French.
Signed, Phillum.
