    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Blood is Thicker than Water

New life stirred in the kingdom even as death found its shores once again.  This time it was not by anyones fault.  He had not known the troubles his father had found himself in.  Perhaps if he had, his life would had not ended in an inferno of fire.  But, he could not blame those who acted to save their own.  So when finally the Nerinians had left Tephra soil and his father lay charred at his feet, he gathered the iron from below the earths crust, to move what remained of the lavender stallion.

His iron body moved quickly to secure the remains and his path was to lead him to the base of the volcanic mountain.  There he would allow the molten earth consume what little was left.  It would be there also that he would call onto his elder siblings.  His twin and his brother that he has always wanted to grow close to.

"Karat... Kwartz," His deep voice carries across the kingdom, bidding them to emerge from wherever life has hid them away.  The tone of his call is strong but somber.  As he waits for their arrival his thoughts go to memories.  They had their fair share of ups and downs as any family did.  But one thing remained constant, their passion for one another...

Changes were afoot. Not that that was anything new, just that today they seemed to concern him. They must, otherwise his brother was summoning him just to be an ass. Always a possibility, but not exactly Krom's style, so... changes it was. Not that he'd been doing much. Tephra afforded the pastel fellow a degree of careless luxury that had been welcome indeed. Sooner or later he knew it would come to an end, Krom would find some type of responsibility for him. To keep him busy. Or out of trouble. Both, most likely. Damn, today could be that day.

With truly impressive dalliance, Kwartz made his way to the volcanic heart of the kingdom, spying the dull metallic form of his half brother easily among the black and brown landscape. How Kromium didn't rust in this humidity was something he had yet to figure out. He'd walked here, the great feathery cloak of his wings held tight about him as he neared the lava floe Krom stood over. "You summoned, O Shiny One?" His cheery tenor called as he got within earshot.

Closing the distance further, he noted that, among the scent of brimstone and sulphur, there was also the bittersweet odor of charred flesh. Nose wrinkled in distaste, his brow lifted questioningly. "Having a bit of a barbecue, are we?" It wasn't hard to find the source of the smell, and he wished it was. Black and red cracked carcass of someone, crispier than most folk liked to be. Whoever it was clearly no longer graced the land of the living, and lingering on the why was enough to turn anyone's stomach. Someone had been pretty keen on ruining this guy's day. "Karat is going to freak if you're trying to show her this too. You know that, right?" His words were as bland and level as he could make them. Gods forbid the corpse was actually someone they knew.

His brothers carefree outlook on life never ceased to amaze the iron stallion.  They -of the same age- were two worlds apart when it came to their personalities.  So it does not surprise him when Kwartz is the first to arrive with whimsical wordige. The pastel pegasus was never one to let any situation become too serious...

He has just turned to watch the charred remains become engrossed with lava when Kwartz comments on their sisters reaction to the corpse, if she were to see.  His emerald eyes shift sideways to view Kwartz now at his side and watching the earth move overtop the body. "There. Better?"  His voice remains talentedly unamused even as he entertains his brothers banter.

When the corpse is melted into earth he turns to look at his brother with a serious expression. "Father is gone," he doesn't say much more than that when he hears the patter of hooves on rock.  Emerald ears tilt back, his head turning more so as to see his sisters coming up from behind them...

He sighs because he knows what he is about to say will devastate Karat more than anyone.  She had always been the apple of their father's eye.  His body shifts until he has turned to face the lavender girls, "I have called you all here because I thought you should all know that our father is no longer with us.  There had been an... accident, and he did not live through it.  I have laid him to rest here." He pauses as he sees tears watering his twins silver-lavender eyes.  His emerald muzzle reaches to console her.  Her features are that of shock and sadness.  He knows they cannot possibly understand all that had happened.  But he did know that they needed each other more than ever now.

"I have an idea though," he adds in a light voice. A soft smile finds his lips before he closes his eyes to concentrate on his task.  He dips into each of their bodies natural iron supplies and pulls them together.  Each bit combining with the remains of their father as well as more iron ore from the earth's core to form a metallic sphere.  He sets it down atop the melted earth that flowed overtop the remains and it begins to flow together.  In time they will know the gift he has created for his sister. For his family.

Karat and Kove look to him confused but they do not question their brother.  Their hearts are filled with sorrow as they join together to remember all they have lost...
