Ruan
He laid his head across her legs, and shortly after hers lowered to rest on his neck. At first, he tensed, his attention flying to the light within his soul, that piece buried within his that didn't belong and yet was still a part of him. It had begun to fade with loss and time and heartache. Perhaps it was leaving him. Perhaps it was no longer his. Perhaps that was why he felt so empty.
His body relaxed beneath her with a mournful sigh. Here in this moment, with his eyes closed as he listened to her breathing, they became wolves to him. A pack, a family, sharing comfort of touch as wolves are meant to. Maybe in some way, she was healing him when he hadn't realized he needed it. He wasn't sure, and never mentioned it.
She chuckled softly, rubbed her soft nose against the tender flesh below his ear. It felt good, very good, but had him flicking his ear and nipping her leg sharply beneath his mouth in rebuff. Don't do that. Then he settled again easily, sighing and content in this moment with their newest resident. Perhaps even..a friend. If he had any of those.
That was when she began her story, a soft and lulling voice that had his eyes drifting closed in complete trust. It was such a sad story, filled with heartbreak and cruelty, torture and captivity. But with her bravery too, her strength she still carried so easily today. Abandonment and then a quest, more of her powerful character laid bare to him. A tale with love, and loss. Of more torture, and more loss.
After that the girls memories become hazy and she can't recall what happened before she woke up powerless in a snowstorm with all of Beqanna changed around her.
His eyes opened at her laugh, thawing away the chill of sadness coating them with her story, and his head twisted to look up at her. That was where he came in, where the winter had called him to find her and block out the cold around her with his magic. Luckily for the girl she met a man with a predator's grin and ice in his eyes.
He indulged her with that predator's grin, mischief flickering to life in his eyes as he nipped at her chin. Water soaked into his ears and he rolled away, lifting his head to shake it out. His dark mane slapped loudly against his damp neck, plastering there as he leaned to snap playfully at her shoulder, wrestling his weight against her as if he were a wolf then, and not a horse. He tossed a foreleg across her back and chewed at her hair, tugged firmly.
As so often before, he was content not to need words with her.
But it was time for their shared pain to release and leave them for a while, and he laughed into her hair with a boyish grin. For now, his heart was light again.
