    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

she slept with wolves without fear

She’d not been terribly surprised by Demian’s return. While he had given up the throne with little complaint, Rhynn knows the look of a powerful man when she sees one. She’d known he’d be back, for better or worse.

And his return is proving to be very interesting to say the least.

Only weeks after assuming the throne Demian had thrown the Valley’s lot in with the Chamber, pulling the entire kingdom into a bloody war. He’d had no choice of course - he’d had to honour the previous alliances - but it had been quite the test for a king only newly returned to the kingship. He’d turned out to be rather more, coldblooded, than she had anticipated.

Not a bad thing, to be sure. It just means she’ll need to watch her step around him. It also means he’s likely to see the the usefulness of her abilities. Of course, he already has Rhonan’s services. But it doesn’t mean he doesn’t need hers.

She seeks out the king in the centre of the kingdom, a tiny shadow in amongst the trees. When she finally does spot him she slips out and approaches, a gracious smile painted on her delicate face. “Hello your majesty.” She inclines her head in respect. Though she’s kept a tabs on the stallion (in the form of a little shadow-ling mouse), she hasn’t actually spoken to him in person since the first time she entered the Valley. “How are you faring?”

for the wolves knew a lion was among them
