The seasons had shifted once more and a dampness clung to the earth as fresh snowmelt fell from it's perches. A chill still clung to the air that surrounded her, but the warming sea breeze offered a promise of warmer weather. Winter's cruel touch had not been as severe as it had been in most other places. Vi was grateful for the warmth of Nerine. Jungleborn, she did not feel like she was well suited for blizzards and snowfall found in most other places. That aside, she still found herself missing the familiarity of her childhood home. Now blind, sight could not help her reconcile the changes forced upon the land during her absence. Flood waters and fire frequented her dreams, as if some cruel memory bring forced upon her. As spring descended upon them she could no longer ignore the shifting within the depths of her conciousness. The eerie laughter that plagued her in every quiet moment seemed to grow louder, offering with a new terrifying memory. A pair of shifting eyes.
Involuntarily she felt her heart quicken and her thoughts thrashed violently within her. Closing her eyes against the shadows that made up the remnants of her sight, her rows creased. Her knees shook and she concentrated on the steadiness of her breathing. Images of her provided perception of her son filtered through her mind, drowning out the mounting chaos. She imagined him similar to Reshi, but taller and built more like Astray. Like the good boy that he was, he never strayed far from her side, a fact she was endlessly thankful for. The wind carried with it the scent of him and, now calmed by the reminder of his nearness, she felt herself inch closer to him. She relied on him - maybe more than she cared to admit. Now a full year old he was maturing and adolescents had descended upon him. Daily she began to worry that the desire to wander would soon overtake him.
She was not ready to let him go.
