    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

[open]  The Sea Shall Rise [Birth]
    #1

This child, born of an aquatic lineage, does not come into this world on a bed of soft straw.  There is no figure to awaken him gently, no whickered greeting.  He is simply cast into the waters off the shores of The Dale.  Waves pulling him under, water filling his earthly lungs.

    Sinking.

The entity of Craft and Anatomy feel this.  A life barely begun sinking into the depth of despair.  It is a cruel cruel world.  When something as innocent as this new life is left to the ocean depths.  They could allow it to consume the waterlogged child, if it had been born anywhere else but their shores.  But the child calls to them in the fading pulsing rhythm of its heartbeat.

    Gills. Yes, that would do.

The transformation takes place, just as the last string of life is to be plucked from the boy.  It takes a moment for the waves to breathe life back into him.  Washing oxygen filled water though his gills as they wash over him.

    A spark.

A gentle twitch of life comes to the child's hooved limbs.  Soon followed by the opening of his eyes.  Those killers' eyes, wide and slitted.

His limbs begin to thrash as the waves push him inland.  Or was the entity pulling him to them, to their shores.

Soon there is sand beneath his hooves, droplets of water rolling off his hairless skin.  Interlocked scales cover his body, leaving only fluffy aqua blue bits of mane and tail.

His eyes, those emotionless pits, rove over the rocky beach he has risen from.  Where would his guardians lead him now?

Astelle had only been alive for a couple weeks, but she had turned into quite the adventurer. The filly enjoyed the last few days galloping through the Dale's fields, learning the terrain of her home. She never strays too far, always under the watchful eyes of her mother and father. They had warned her about those who lurk in the shadows - about those who hunt little ones like her. So, Astelle makes sure to never run too far ahead, always checking to make sure they were in her view.

Today, her father had taken her to the beach to look for seashells. Astelle had found several interesting ones - golden whelks, banded tulips, calico scallops - and each time she brought them over to her father for him to admire too. He explained that some shells were the remains of old clams, and that other shells were abandoned houses of small crabs. It was all very fascinating to the wide-eyed, bushy tailed filly.

It is a quiet, chilly spring morning on the beach. Waves broke gently upon the shoreline, washing up all sorts of creatures - jellyfish and mollusks, seaweed and dead fish. Astelle's eyes scan the beach as she trots ahead, her father straying behind her. Nothing strikes her as unusual until she finds someone standing just above the water's edge. Her breath catches as she sees the silhouette of an equine before her - he looks to be around her age.

Astelle stands motionless as she watches his eyes scan the beach and then meet her gaze. "Are...are you okay?" She asks, taking a step back, but never letting her eyes off the colt.
