i’ve been training like a soldier; i’ve been burning through this sorrow
The weeks and months passing the disturbance are not what he had expected.
They were…quiet.
Few dared to come to their depths and their kingdom, for the most part, kept to themselves. Perhaps it was a general understanding that the waters had been disturbed enough. Perhaps it was the dread that they felt whenever they visited the Ruins and remembered what had passed before. Whatever it was, while peaceful, it left him feeling anything but. Restlessness settled in his bones. A buzzing discomfort. It trailed him wherever he went, and it took everything in him to control the temper that came with it.
Until he awoke this day and decided to do something about it. Instead of showing up to training or checking in with his fellow soldiers, with his General, he stretched and speared toward the land once more. His merlin form cut through the water easily and it is only when he breaks the surface that he shifts back into his more familiar form. His masked head comes up for air and it feels strange, but he doesn’t mind. There is something to the dryness of being on land that makes him appreciate the sea even more.
Feeling energized by the decision to do something about his restlessness, he swims slowly along the coast until he finds the trailing river pouring outward. Shifting once more, he becomes a salmon that slips through the currents, making his way upstream along the river. Still made of water, his translucent form slips amongst the living in the river, and if he finds the brackish water distasteful, he ignores it.
He would take this over stagnation for one more hour.
So he swims. He swims and swims through the rapids and still, until he reaches a part of the river that grows shallow. Shifting, he stands, the water dripping off of him and becoming him all the same.
