    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Sunlight scattered across his deep gold skin, vanishing in the sooty black mantle over his shoulders and down his spine. He flared his wings out as they walked side by side, white and gleaming as they tucked back in against his ribs. Vanish was still much smaller, her gorgeous wings as black as her soot. Her gold was a good deal lighter than his, pale and beautiful and soft, and he shouldered her sweetly every few minutes.

"Maybe you and me could make some friends, huh?" she asked him and he grimaced.

Um, I'm sure you'll make friends. And have a lot of fun. But he was pretty sure he wasn't interested. He'd be busy watching over her anyway. That's good enough for him. It always had been.

He walked them into the area, leading her at least a little away from other children. Somewhere with enough coverage for him to lean against a tree and stay out of the way, mostly out of sight. There was a puddle of melted snow nearby large enough for her to jump into, but he was sure she wouldn't. Her beautiful coat would get so dirty.

Alright. Go on, then. I'll be near. He glanced around, chose a shady place and nodded over at it. There. And he left her with a kiss on her little forehead, a ruffle through her forelock. Made his way to the thick tree and stood beneath, facing outward to keep an eye on her and anyone she played with.

if it gets too busy and confusing, we can split them up. i'm not picky.

Vanna walked alongside her best big brother, focused hard on making her walk smooth and graceful, arching her neck just so, trying to make even the occasional rustle of her wings look purposeful and elegant. Senny interrupted her focus now and again with gentle little shoulder bumps, and she looked up at him with a soft smile each time. Anybody else she might’ve been grumpy with for distracting her when she was practicing so hard to be dancer-graceful instead of gangly-legged clumsy, but she loved his soft touches and gentle reminders of his presence.

She nodded at his assurance that she’d make friends and have fun, her smile widening. “Yeah! I bet we will.” They were good company, and Senny for sure was nice to be around. Of course they’d make friends. Who wouldn’t love them?

She followed him into the playground, to the nice little cozy spot he picked out for them. Not quite hidden, but far enough out of the main drag that it would still be nice and quiet. And even though she would rather have curled up against his side and snuggled him, instead she--well, did that first, rubbed up against him like a purring little kitten and cuddled him for a long moment. But then.

“Okay, Senny,” she said softly as he kissed her forehead, played with her hair> And then she bit her lip, ducked her head a little, and took a few steps forward. Dodged around the big puddle of course, no need to splash and get herself all icky and wet and muddy. And she looked around for more kids, anyone to say hi to and maybe get to know at least a little.
