It was a quiet journey from Ischia to Tephra, although Durotan did not mind. He was just so pleased that she decided to come to Tephra with him and Krone. A smile appears on his maw for the trip, she was old enough to make her own decisions but she decided to follow Durotan. She could have stayed in Ischia with the friends she already made, the home she knew, but she did not.

They finally reach the border of Tephra and he looks to Maiven This is Tephra Maiven, your new home. He scans the horizon before pressing forward. Maiven, there is something I need to tell you. It was pretty obvious that Krone and Durotan were together, although he never officially told her, and now they are expecting a foal. He wanted to confirm the news to Maiven, to hear it from him rather than rumors.

In case you have not noticed...Krone and I are together. In love really...In some shape or form she was technically Maivens mother, but that is something that needn't be pushed on either of them. Also...Maiven..We are expecting a foal this spring. A grin from ear to ear appears on his maw, he was so excited to meet the unborn child. He turns back to look at Maiven, he still loved her and the foal would not replace her.

Although only almost two years old, Maiven felt like her world had been turned upside down several times already. The sudden loss of her parents had left her paralyzed in fear, unable to comprehend what life would mean without them there to guide her. It was in that moment of uncertainty that she’d been found, nestled in a clumping of bushes by the stallion she now proudly referred to as her father. Together they’d searched for a home and had thought that they’d found it upon the island of Ischia. Sadly, there time there had come crashing to end when Durotan’s lady love was overthrown and cast aside. Loyal as he ever was, he’d chosen to follow.
 
She knew that she didn’t have to follow them off Ischia. She’d had the choice to remain there and declare herself to the new king. Even the thought of that felt like a betrayal. Her loyalties would always remain to the one who had taken her in when no one else could even spare her the tiniest of glances. His dedication meant more to her than the idle friendships that she’d made.
 
So, to Tephra they fled. The land reeked of soot and ash and the ground felt firm beneath her feet. Heat peeled off the distant volcano in waves and brushed along her dappled hide. Not nearly as beautiful as Ischia, Maiven reveled in the truth that they would be safe there.
 
Finally, alone with her papa, she sighed contentedly. The two of them had hardly had a moment to themselves since they’d left the island. With the added company of Krone and her twins, their journey had not been without conversation.
 
Krom and Karat were nice enough, though Maiven had yet to know how the filly felt about the hulking tinker.
 
Durotan’s voice broke the silence as he presented Tephra as a new home and announced that there was important information he had to share with her. Maiven waited patiently, already expecting the words he had to say to her. She already knew the depth of his affection for Krone, any fool could see the way that they regarded each other. However, she could not have anticipated the words that would fall from his lips next.
 
A foal. A sibling to bind their separate families together. There were no words that seemed fitting for the feelings that erupted inside of her.
 
“Papa,” she attempted, her voice reverent. “That’s wonderful!”

He knew everything around her was changing, not only was she ripped away from Ischia, from those troubling twins of Brennen. But she was now mashed into Krone's family with her twins, it was a lot for anyone to deal with. Maiven was not getting any younger, nearing a mature mare she was able to make her own decisions, and surely to chatter of the twins was enough to drive any equine insane. Of course they were harmless, and he found there chatter to be rather humorous.

Now on top of it all he announces his love for Krone and there newest addition to the family. They will all be officially combining there separate families into one unit. To his surprise she was happy for them, all of his worries slipped away when she had spoken. He steps closer and nuzzles her shoulder I am so happy to hear that Maiven. They rarely had time alone anymore, and it would only get slimmer now that she was older. Soon she would venture off to her own journey and he was not sure he was ready for that.

His relief radiates towards her and she shoots him a quick smile. Since their arrival at Tephra, a heaviness loomed over the blossoming family. It many ways Maiben feared that their happiness would be just as short lived as it'd been on Ischia. They all had their friendships and it was bittersweet to have left it all behind. However, it had given Maiven the opportunity to get to know the twins who were quickly going to become her siblings. Even despite their displacement, good could be found.

Maiven drew closer to her father and leaned into him, finding comfort within the strength of his embrace. Somehow she knew, no matter what, they would be alright as long as they had each other. No matter how frightening the world seemed, their survival was assured.
