    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Since her interaction with the blue traveller, Lepis has proudly worn her Ischian shell in the tangle of her ombre mane. The traveller had mentioned something about knots and not expecting permanence and other weird nonsense words. Lepis isn't quite sure what he had meant, but she enjoys the familiar weight of it against her neck.

The lengthening strands of her mane - navy blue at the root and lightening to cloudy white at the tips - hide and silence the shell for the most part, but a sprightly morning breeze sends it clinking against the stone that Lepis is leaning against, and wakes her.

Last night, the stone had been warm with collected sunlight, but the cool night had drained it and the dun mare shivers as she regains her balance. Another night unable to find Heda, comes the unbidden thought, but the perlino filly shakes it away with a yawn. She's lost count, but it does not deter her.

The sound of hooves chases away the last of those thoughts, and Lepis steps out from the shadow of the bluff beside which she'd spent the night. When she meets the gaze of the other horse, she smiles openly.
