    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Lights will lead into the night with me [Andrea Pony]

i counted the stars tonight, i gathered them all
She was growing up. This she knew instinctively. For the most part the days pass uneventfully each one the same as the last, neither colder nor warmer, each day lacking the one thing she longed for…. The dark. This was her world, this was everything that she knew, if she knew of nothing else, how could she long for it? If this was her life then why would she want it differently? There was no point to such thoughts, there is no point to dreams. They are not real, what is real… real... Shut up She hisses to the voice again, since her last attempt to call on the stars, the gods of the sky as she believed them to be, they had punished her. Now there was more than one voice. Now there was two, this second one was not as nice as the first. The first one made of soft yellow light, pleasantly wispy her voice would kiss her ear reminding her gently of what she knew to be true. This second one was not pleasant; this second one was developing into something more. Something that she did not appreciate.

He was dark, as she could be when consumed in a shadow. This one had a cracked and dry voice. This one would condemn her, ridicule her, tell her exactly why it was that the stars would never belong to her. This one had been silent for most of the day, but now she was getting a headache. It was close to dusk, a few more hours and she would be become awake. She would come alive, and no longer feel the seething hatred that consumed her through the day. The dark was soothing; it was the healing balm to her soul. The dark brought peace and gentle acceptance of all that existed. It was a lonely world in the night, everyone disappeared from the meadow, the few that stayed were nervous, or just plain creeps. But this was the place that she called home, no one bothered her. Ok yea there had been that one creep…. She was still angry at him. He had done this to her, he had caused the manifestation of this second voice. She is sure of it, there was no other way to explain it. Secretly she knew it had been her fault, she had lost control, she had let her rage consume her, and not only satisfied what he wanted, but also did the taboo.

She couldn’t afford to lose control like that again, never would she let her pride get in the way again. Cursed She hisses out loud. Startling herself with the word pale eyes turn towards the painted sky. There was no enjoyment, no inviting warmth from the sunset. There was nothing but eager anticipation of what was to come. Maybe tonight the stars would listen, maybe tonight they would take her punishment away. Maybe tonight she would be at complete peace. She knows better than to wish for these things, so she does not admit it to herself, no she gives her feelings no voice. She leaves them locked in the back of her heart, simply existing, and reveling in the moments before the delicious darkness would bring her the solid sensations of peace. She keeps her hopes a secret even from herself, her demeanor speaks nothing of what her heart holds, her thoughts void of all definitive statements. She simply stands there, in all her red roan glory she stands there admiring what she could not touch. I can touch the stars though. She muses a whisper, something to satisfy the urge, some little consolation that the world would not end today, that night would come and her world would be set in place once more.
